Description

The authentic expression of a great white Burgundy

This Marsannay Village 2024 is a white wine from France, from the prestigious region of Burgundy.

The estate
Founded in 1990 on a historic site, Château de Marsannay is a leading name in Burgundy. Located at the northern entrance to the Côte de Nuits, this 40-hectare estate has been run since 2012 by its current owner, Olivier Halley. Under his leadership and that of general manager Stéphane Follin-Arbelet, the estate has distinguished itself through its environmental commitment, obtaining organic certification in 2022. The estate is renowned for its meticulous enhancement of its terroirs and its respectful approach to biodiversity.

The vineyard
This wine comes from a vineyard of approximately 2.6 hectares located within the Marsannay appellation. The vines, facing east and southeast, are planted midslope on complex geological soils dating back to the Middle Jurassic. These terroirs are composed of brown limestone, Premeaux limestone, and marl, giving the wine its characteristic minerality. The cuvée is the result of a blend of five distinct parcels, including the prestigious Climats Clos de Jeu and Les Favières.

The vintage
2024 was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions, with exceptional rainfall reaching double the annual average. The growing cycle had to contend with heavy fungal pressure and hailstorms in May. Despite these challenges, which led to historically low yields, the harvested berries benefited from a high concentration of their natural components.

Winemaking and aging
True to a philosophy of minimal intervention, the winemaking of this Marsannay Village 2024 begins with hand-harvesting followed by rigorous sorting. The grapes undergo gentle pressing and careful de-stemming. Fermentation, temperature-controlled, is carried out using indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for up to fifteen months, adding complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit, before being stabilized in stainless steel tanks.

Grape variety
Chardonnay (100%).

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Marsannay Village 2024 Château de Marsannay

Tasting notes

Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals lovely complexity, blending notes of white flowers such as hawthorn and acacia with citrus aromas reminiscent of lemon and lime. Subtle touches of yellow stone fruit, such as peach and apricot, round out this olfactory palette.

Palate
On the palate, this wine offers generous body and appealing volume, perfectly balanced by a refined mineral freshness. The harmony between the fruit's fullness and the mineral tension extends into a long, persistent finish.

Service and storage
To fully appreciate this Marsannay Village 2024, it is recommended to serve it between 10 and 13°C in classic white wine glasses. With a fine structure, it can be enjoyed in its youth but also has the aging potential to develop favorably through 2032.

Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with seafood such as oysters, steamed scallops, or sautéed shrimp, particularly when accompanied by a lightly acidic sauce. It also enhances white meats and light poultry, mushroom-based dishes, as well as raw-milk cheeses such as Comté, Gruyère, or Gouda.
