Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Haut-Marbuzet 2000
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a deep red colour, ranging from claret to purple, with fine intensity. In its youth, it shows ruby highlights that gradually evolve towards garnet hues over time.
Nose
The nose opens with pronounced oak, offering toasty aromas of coffee, vanilla and charred oak. These then give way to a generous bouquet of ripe red and black fruits such as redcurrant, plum, cranberry and blackcurrant, enriched with notes of truffle as the wine evolves.
Palate
On the palate, the attack is velvety and caressing, leading into a medium-bodied structure with a gourmand fruitiness. The tannins, though round, show a certain firmness. The finish is long, with spicy and oaky notes lifted by a noble touch.
Serving and cellaring
This 2000 vintage is built to age for fifteen to twenty years. Patient ageing in the cellar allows its oaky aromas to blend harmoniously and its tannins to soften fully.
The singular, voluptuous expression of a great Saint-Estèphe wine
The estate
The modern history of the estate began in 1952, when Hervé Duboscq acquired a plot under a life annuity arrangement. Located in the Bordeaux region of France, the estate has established itself as an essential benchmark. Today, Château Haut-Marbuzet is run by Henri Duboscq, assisted by his sons Bruno and Hugues. This exceptional Cru Bourgeois stands out for its hedonistic, sensual style, which runs counter to the traditional austerity of the area. The estate covers around 75 hectares and enjoys immense renown thanks to the close relationship it has built with its loyal customers.
The vineyard
The 70 to 75 hectares under vine lie in the commune of Saint-Estèphe, on a slope facing the Gironde estuary. The vines, with an average age of 30 to 35 years, are planted at a high density of 8,500 vines per hectare on a rise of Günzian gravel over a clay-limestone subsoil. This geology ensures excellent drainage while providing an ideal water reserve. The vineyard is farmed using sustainable viticulture, with late hand harvesting to ensure the berries reach optimal ripeness.
The vintage
2000 is recognised as a great vintage. Weather conditions proved particularly favourable, allowing the grapes to ripen steadily, which was ideal for producing structured, concentrated wines capable of long ageing.
Vinification and ageing
This wine is made using traditional vinification methods marked by long maceration periods. It is then aged for around fifteen months exclusively in 100% new oak barrels, a technical signature that gives it its intensely oaky and spicy aromatic profile in its youth.
Grape varieties
The blend is based on proportions that are unusual for the Left Bank, dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by small touches of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
