Tasting Notes and Characteristics of Clos des Lunes "Lune d'Or" 2025
Tasting
Nose
The nose stands out for its captivating delicacy and softness, blossoming with graceful floral notes of jasmine and acacia, enhanced by a fine touch of citrus zest. The whole exudes an intoxicating, sweet sensation of rare elegance and immediate seductiveness.
Palate
The palate is an invitation to indulgence: the pulpy, refined and crisp flesh of the Sémillon fills the palate with exquisite, smooth and fresh sweetness, carried by the exceptional ripeness of this vintage. The rigorous selection of the picking sorts gives the wine a remarkable purity of expression, allowing intense, crystalline fruit flavours of great luminosity to shine through. Tension and freshness run through the whole with precision, bringing brilliance and balance to this concentrated richness.
The purity and fruitiness of a great dry white Bordeaux wine
The estate
Clos des Lunes tells the story of an ambitious adventure that began in 2011, born of an observation and a challenge: to craft a legendary dry white wine on the exceptional terroir of Sauternes. This is the successful endeavour of the iconic Olivier Bernard and his family, owners of Domaine de Chevalier in Léognan, who, with passion and energy, have devoted themselves to making Clos des Lunes one of the greatest references for dry white Bordeaux wines in this land of sweet wines.
The vineyard
The Clos des Lunes vineyard covers 60 hectares across the rolling hills of Sauternes. The vines, averaging 40 years of age, are planted on a mosaic of soils, each contributing to the signature of the estate's wines. While the deep gravels of Sauternes provide power, the freshness characteristic of the gravel soils on clay-limestone subsoil of Bommes blends with the finesse and elegance of the red earth of Barsac.
The wine
Prestigious and rare, Clos des Lunes "Lune d'Or" reflects all of Olivier Bernard's ambition: to produce one of the greatest wines in the world. Crafted from a rigorous manual selection of berries from very old vines, this dry white Bordeaux wine with significant ageing potential aspires to be an ultimate expression of purity and complexity.
