Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Volnay 1er Cru "Les Fremiets" 2023 Comte Armand
Tasting
Colour
This wine from France reveals a beautiful red colour.
Nose
The bouquet is very ripe, releasing generous aromas of black cherries, plum, and raspberry. This fruity ensemble is delicately underscored by notes of spice, blackcurrant leaf, and subtle balsamic touches.
Palate
The attack is soft, silky, and delicate, offering beautiful aromatic finesse around juicy fruit. The mid-palate then evolves toward a more structured and mineral finish, with a firm tannic grip that brings lovely tension to the whole.
Food and Wine Pairing
This cuvée pairs ideally with poultry, particularly quail and feathered game, as well as delicate meats such as rabbit. It also pairs perfectly with red meats, lightly spiced skewers, or mushroom pasta and risotto dishes. To finish the meal, ripe soft-rind cheeses such as brie or camembert will make excellent companions.
Service and Storage
This Volnay 1er Cru "Les Fremiets" 2023 has a solid structure that allows it to refine with time. It should be enjoyed until around 2030.
Other Characteristics
This wine has an alcohol content ranging from 13.5% to 14%. Its pH is between 3.5 and 3.7, while its volatile acidity ranges from 0.5 to 0.7, chemical parameters that reflect the warmth of the vintage.
The Elegance of the Volnay Appellation Combined with the Minerality of a Singular Terroir
The Estate
Located in Pommard, in the heart of Burgundy, Domaine du Comte Armand is a historic estate that has been owned by the Armand family since its founding in 1828. This nine-hectare vineyard stands out for its deep respect for the environment, applying organic and biodynamic methods. Today, technical management is entrusted to Jane Eyre, whose mission is to perpetuate the excellence and identity of this family estate. She ensures that the wines produced faithfully reflect the authenticity of their respective terroirs.
The Vineyard
The Les Fremiets plot is located within the Volnay appellation, on the edge of Pommard. This unique terroir rests on a rocky base typical of Volnay, covered by soil with a high concentration of iron oxide. The vineyard is made up of two generations of vines, planted in 1950 and 1980, cultivated with meticulous care that includes traditional horse ploughing. Each vine receives particular attention to ensure a hand-picked harvest at optimal ripeness.
The Vintage
The year was marked by particularly hot weather conditions, leading to an accelerated vine cycle and advanced ripening of the grapes. This warmth allowed for an early harvest, beginning in the first days of September, yielding a healthy crop with moderate, balanced yields, without the need for green harvesting.
Winemaking and Aging
The winemaking of this Volnay 1er Cru "Les Fremiets" 2023 is carried out on a plot-by-plot basis to respect the identity of the terroir. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 18 months, without any filtration or fining. Exceptionally for this vintage, the proportion of new oak was increased to 45% due to a shortage of used barrels. Finally, to preserve the brightness of the fruit given the warm conditions of the year, bottling was carried out unusually early.
