Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Rully 1er Cru "Cloux" 2022 Domaine de Villaine
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a delicate pale yellow hue.
Nose
Wonderfully refined, the aromatic bouquet releases airy scents of white peach and mandarin, intertwined with notes of white flowers, lemon and lime. A subtle oaky touch and fine minerality complete this elegant ensemble.
Palate
The attack is fresh and perfectly balanced, carried by a remarkable tension that highlights the mineral identity of the terroir. The palate unfolds rich flavours typical of the grape variety, evolving toward noble bitter notes that make this wine particularly mouth-watering. The finish lingers gracefully, offering a saline touch and fine energy.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with freshwater fish, shellfish such as crab or prawns, and richer seafood dishes such as lobster in cream sauce. It also pairs perfectly with herb-roasted poultry, terrines, or a cheese platter featuring brie, mature gouda or époisses.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate the Rully 1er Cru "Cloux" 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C, taking care to aerate it lightly or decant it while young. With fine ageing potential, this wine can be cellared until around 2027 to reveal its full depth.
The purity and minerality of a great Rully wine by Domaine de Villaine
The estate
Acquired in 1971 by Aubert and Pamela de Villaine, Domaine de Villaine is a benchmark estate in Burgundy, France. Located in Bouzeron, at the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, the estate now spans 30 hectares across 16 appellations. A pioneer, the estate has cultivated its vines according to organic farming principles since the 1980s, complemented by a biodynamic approach. Currently run by Pierre de Benoist, the estate continues to uphold a demanding philosophy aimed at expressing the purest authenticity of each terroir.
The vineyard
Acquired shortly before the 2018 harvest, the "Cloux" climat is a historic terroir of Rully. This 1.1-hectare plot, with vines averaging 45 years of age, benefits from an ideal south-east exposure on the mid-slope, facing the rising sun. The shallow soil is composed of fine clay and limestone, offering great mineral richness. The presence of natural underground springs ensures a regular water supply, essential during dry years, allowing the grapes to reach optimal balance.
Winemaking and ageing
True to the estate's minimal-intervention philosophy, the Rully 1er Cru "Cloux" 2022 is vinified through spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine then undergoes extended lees ageing for 12 to 18 months. This process takes place in foudres, demi-muids and barrels, with the proportion of new oak deliberately limited to 10% in order to preserve the natural expression and purity of the terroir.
Grape variety
This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay.
