Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Romanée-Conti Grand Cru Monopole 2013 from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
Tasting
Appearance
This red wine reveals a limpid ruby robe, with an intensity ranging from medium to deep, highlighted by fine, regular legs.
Nose
Initially discreet, the bouquet then reveals remarkable purity. It exudes aromas of black and red fruits, such as plum, blackcurrant, cherry and wild strawberry. Aeration releases mineral notes reminiscent of wet limestone, combined with floral touches of faded rose and hints of sweet spices and undergrowth.
Palate
Medium-bodied, this wine offers a velvety texture carried by extremely fine tannins. The balance is striking, blending beautiful freshness with intense fruit concentration. The finish, remarkably pure, lingers for over a minute.
Food and Wine Pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with delicate dishes that do not overshadow its subtlety. It will ideally accompany fine poultry with mushrooms, such as roast chicken with morels, crispy sweetbreads or feathered game prepared with a light jus.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate this 2013 vintage, it is recommended to serve it between 16 and 18°C in large, flared Burgundy-style glasses. Opening the bottle just before tasting is preferable to a long decanting. Built for a very long evolution, this wine has an exceptional ageing potential, allowing it to be kept until around 2033, or even well beyond.
The finesse and structure of a wine from an iconic Burgundy estate
The Estate
Located in Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti has ancient origins, although its current legal structure was established in 1942. This iconic French estate spans nearly 29 hectares, all classified as Grand Cru. Today, the property is jointly managed by Perrine Fenal and Bertrand de Villaine, representing the historic Leroy and Gaudin de Villaine families. Farmed entirely biodynamically, the estate is renowned worldwide for its absolute pursuit of terroir expression and the rarity of its wines.
The Vineyard
The Romanée-Conti climat is a 1.8-hectare monopole located on the slopes of Vosne-Romanée, in the Côte de Nuits. The vines thrive on brown limestone and marl soils offering excellent drainage. The vineyard is farmed according to biodynamic principles, with careful soil management, strict yield limitation and meticulous preservation of the surrounding biodiversity.
The Vintage
The year 2013 stood out for conditions that produced very small bunches with thick, crisp skins. This particularity naturally limited yields while fostering a notably rich and concentrated fruit at harvest.
Winemaking and Ageing
The winemaking is characterized by significant use of whole-cluster fermentation, accounting for between 70 and 80% of the harvest depending on the plot. This technical choice adds extra aromatic complexity and reinforces the wine's tannic structure.
