The Elegance and Concentration of a Great Nuits-Saint-Georges Wine
The Estate
Officially founded in 1999, Domaine de la Vougeraie is located in Premeaux-Prissey, in the heart of Burgundy. The legacy of a family history that began in the 1960s, the estate is now run by its founders, Jean-Charles and Nathalie Boisset. This estate stands out for its deep commitment to biodynamic viticulture, seeking to preserve living soils in order to express the authenticity of its terroirs. With vineyards scattered across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, Domaine de la Vougeraie embodies contemporary Burgundian excellence, combining ancestral traditions with a holistic approach.
The Vineyard
An exclusive property of the estate, the Clos de Thorey plot is located within the prestigious Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. Facing due south to capture optimal sunlight, the vines thrive on sedimentary formations dating back to the Middle Jurassic period. This unique terroir stands out for its exceptional richness in active limestone, dotted with eroded blocks known as "têtes de mouton" (sheep's heads). The soil also contains marl rich in fossilised oysters, remnants of an ancient Polynesian sea that existed millions of years ago, giving this cru a unique mineral identity.
The Vintage
The year 2022 stands out for its exceptional weather conditions, marked by intense heat and drought reminiscent of the famous 1947 vintage. This sun-drenched climate led to accelerated berry ripening. The harvest thus began very early, at the end of August, unfolding over three weeks under summer weather occasionally punctuated by storms, just before the arrival of the autumn rains.
Winemaking and Aging
The creation of the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Clos de Thorey" Monopole 2022 begins with a meticulous selection of berries, gravity-fed into the vats with 5% whole clusters. Fermentation starts naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts, preceded by a five-day cold maceration to extract colour and delicate aromas. After a total vatting period of eighteen days punctuated by gentle daily pump-overs, the wine is gently pressed in a vertical press. It is then aged for sixteen months in oak barrels, 30% of which are new, allowing for harmonious integration.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
