Domaine du Château de Meursault: Historic Excellence at the Heart of Burgundy
The Estate
While the estate's origins date back to the 11th century, the true winemaking venture of the Domaine du Château de Meursault took shape in the early 19th century. Located in France on the prestigious Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, this 65-hectare institution is now run by the Halley family, led by Olivier Halley since late 2012. The estate stands out for its spectacular Cistercian cellars and its pursuit of excellence. Enjoying great renown, the vineyard combines respect for tradition with a commitment to agroecology, reflected in its full organic certification.
The Vineyard
The 1.95-hectare plot from which this cuvée is born lies at the base of the Beaune hillside. Ideally oriented to the east, the vines thrive on soils made up of a sandy-clay and limestone blend, ensuring excellent drainage. Cultivated according to organic farming principles, this historic terroir, whose earliest traces date back to Gallo-Roman times, also benefits from innovative agroecological initiatives, such as the planting of a riparian forest nearby to help cool the vines during periods of intense summer heat.
The Vintage
The year 2022 was marked by highly favorable weather conditions, resulting in excellent grape health at harvest, which took place from late August to mid-September. This growing cycle allowed the berries to reach beautiful ripeness, giving rise to a balanced vintage that combines appealing volume with finely drawn structure.
Winemaking and Aging
Following manual harvesting and a double sorting process, both manual and optical, the destemmed berries of this Beaune 1er Cru "Les Cent-Vignes" 2022 undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration lasting around fifteen days. Alcoholic fermentation, carried out using indigenous yeasts, is accompanied by careful punching down and pumping over. Following a gentle pneumatic pressing, the wine is aged for 12 to 15 months in oak barrels, 35% of which are new, to refine its structure.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
