Domaine du Château de Meursault : Pommard Village "Clos de la Platière" 2025
En Primeur Wines – delivery in early 2028
Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Pommard Village “Clos de la Platière” 2025 from Domaine du Château de Meursault
Tasting
Appearance
This Pinot Noir is expected to show an intense ruby hue, true to the deep colour this cuvée from the Pommard climat usually develops.
Nose
The nose should express itself in a dark-fruit register, dominated by blueberry, a well-known aromatic signature of this Pommard village wine.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is opulent and well structured, carried by present yet ripe tannins, reflecting the structure characteristic of the Pommard appellation.
Food and wine pairing
This wine will pair beautifully with red meats of character, whether roasted or slow-cooked: a confit leg of lamb, a grilled cut of beef, veal medallions or a beef fillet with morels will all harmonise with its tannic structure and assertive fruit.
Serving and cellaring
The Pommard Village “Clos de la Platière” 2025 is currently offered en primeur: it is still ageing in oak barrels at the estate. Once this stage is complete, the cuvée traditionally shows an ageing potential of 10 to 12 years, in keeping with the tannic structure of this Pommard climat.
A Structured Pommard Village from Domaine du Château de Meursault
The estate
The Domaine du Château de Meursault took on its modern form in 1973, when André Boisseaux undertook the complete restoration of the château and laid the foundations of today's wine estate. Located in Burgundy, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the estate now covers 67 hectares farmed organically. Since December 2012, the property has belonged to the Halley family, under the leadership of Olivier Halley, who continues to pursue the estate's qualitative and environmental development. The domaine is renowned for the diversity of its terroirs, spread across grands crus, premiers crus and village appellations.
The vineyard
The Pommard Village “Clos de la Platière” comes from a climat in the commune of Pommard, which the estate has farmed since the 2018 vintage. Set mid-slope, this clos enjoys a south/south-west exposure and sits on clay-limestone soil, conducive to the steady ripening of Pinot Noir. The portion within the village appellation, covering 3 hectares, is farmed according to the same organic principles applied across the estate's entire vineyard.
Winemaking and ageing
For the Pommard Village “Clos de la Platière” 2025, the grapes are hand-sorted before destemming, then sorted a second time by optical sorting so that only the finest berries are retained. A cold pre-fermentation maceration of 15 to 18 days precedes an alcoholic fermentation of 5 to 6 days, during which pumping over is favoured for a gradual extraction of tannins. The wine is currently ageing in oak barrels, around one third of which are new, for a planned total duration of approximately fifteen months.
Grape variety
This wine is made from Pinot Noir.
