Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Echezeaux Grand Cru "En Orveaux" 2024 Domaine Faiveley

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a clear ruby hue with crimson highlights, typical of this low-clay terroir.

Nose
The nose expresses great aromatic delicacy, blending red fruit aromas such as cherry, raspberry and strawberry. It is enriched with floral notes reminiscent of violet, peony and rose, underscored by beautiful spicy and earthy nuances.

Palate
On the palate, this red wine stands out for its finesse and elegance rather than its power. It offers a silky texture carried by fine, supple tannins, along with a lovely freshness, revealing remarkable aromatic complexity.

Food and Wine Pairing
This grand cru pairs wonderfully with wild boar stew or grilled rib of beef. It will also perfectly accompany poultry dishes, light game or recipes showcasing mushrooms.

Service and Storage
For an optimal tasting of the Echezeaux Grand Cru "En Orveaux" 2024, it is recommended to open or decant the bottle about an hour before serving. The ideal tasting temperature is between 15 and 16°C. This wine offers excellent aging potential and will improve after several years in the cellar.

The Elegance and Finesse of a Burgundy Grand Cru

The Estate
Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is a true institution in France, in the Burgundy region. Originally wine merchants, the family members patiently built an exceptional vineyard that now spans more than 125 hectares. Currently led by the seventh generation, represented by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate stands out for its environmental commitment, having completed organic farming certification for its bicentenary in 2025. The estate brilliantly combines respect for Burgundian tradition with technical innovation.

The Vineyard
The climat "En Orveaux" is a 0.83-hectare plot located within the prestigious Echezeaux appellation. Positioned at altitude with a south-facing exposure, the vines were planted in 1950, 1956 and 1982. This unique terroir rests on shallow marl soils, particularly poor in clay, and is cultivated according to organic farming principles.

The Vintage
2024 proved particularly challenging in weather terms. An autumn and winter marked by relentless rainfall preceded a warm spring, leading to early vegetative growth and an increased risk of frost in April. These humid, mild conditions favored strong disease pressure, drastically limiting yields for this harvest.

Winemaking and Aging
The grapes for the Echezeaux Grand Cru "En Orveaux" 2024 are hand-harvested and sorted before undergoing a short pre-fermentation maceration. Fermentation takes place in custom-made conical wooden vats, accompanied by traditional punching down. After gentle pressing and gravity separation, the wine is aged in the estate's historic vaulted nineteenth-century cellars. Aging takes place in French oak barrels, with a proportion of 60% new oak and 40% once-used barrels.

Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
