Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 2023 by Domaine Faiveley
Tasting
Colour
A rich ruby red colour, this wine reveals subtle garnet hues over time.
Nose
Complex and precise, the nose offers a perfect balance between mineral and floral notes. It releases aromas of red fruits such as raspberry, redcurrant and wild strawberry, mingled with scents of rose, chalk, crushed flint and sea spray. Subtle nuances of spice, toast and smoke round out this bouquet.
Palate
With a medium to full body, the palate is captivating with its airy character and ripe, silky, refined tannins. Vibrant acidity supports a palpable minerality, leading to a remarkably long, complex and saline finish, punctuated with delicate peppery notes.
Food and Wine Pairing
This Grand Cru pairs wonderfully with refined poultry or feathered game, such as duck confit or roast pigeon. It also pairs very well with finely prepared beef dishes, as well as medium-aged pressed cheeses such as Comté or Gruyère.
Service and Storage
To reveal its full complexity, it is advisable to decant this wine if it is drunk young. This Grand Cru has excellent aging potential and can be cellared for many years.
The Mineral Elegance of a Grand Cru from Gevrey-Chambertin
The Estate
Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley, Domaine Faiveley is a historic figure in Burgundy, based in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Now led by the seventh generation, represented by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate oversees a vast vineyard spread across the region's finest terroirs. Combining two centuries of family heritage with a contemporary vision, the estate stands out for its environmental commitment.
The Vineyard
Latricières-Chambertin is the southernmost of the Grand Crus in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. The plot owned by the estate enjoys an ideal east-facing orientation. The vines flourish on shallow, stony soils, resting on a limestone base covered with a fine and distinctive layer of silica, giving the wine its characteristic minerality.
The Vintage
2023 stood out as one of the hottest years on record, although this heat remained moderate throughout the growing season. Temperature peaks at the end of August and the beginning of September were particularly beneficial, allowing the berries to reach optimal ripeness while preserving lovely freshness and a saving acidity.
Winemaking and Aging
After rigorous manual sorting, the grapes are transferred by gravity into vats. Fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts, accompanied by regular punching down. After gentle vertical pressing, the wine is aged in French oak barrels, thus revealing the full finesse of its terroir.
