Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "C.C." 2023 from Domaine Guffens-Heynen
Tasting
Colour
This Pouilly-Fuissé shows a deep golden hue, enlivened by brilliant highlights.
Nose
The nose is sunny and expressive, driven by ripe yellow fruit and notes of orange blossom and honeysuckle, lifted by a touch of star anise and a sense of warm stone.
Palate
On the palate, the wine unfolds with a very floral character, at once powerful and refined. A remarkable vigour runs throughout, leading to a finish with a striking chew that attests to the concentration of the fruit.
Serving and cellaring
With significant ageing potential, the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "C.C." 2023 already offers pleasure in its youth and can be cellared for several years.
A Pouilly-Fuissé crafted from two cool terroirs in Vergisson
The estate
Founded in the late 1970s by the Belgian-born couple Maine Heynen and Jean-Marie Guffens, Domaine Guffens-Heynen has established itself as a benchmark for Chardonnay in Burgundy. Maine Heynen and Jean-Marie Guffens remain the owners and managers. The estate cultivates a few hectares of Chardonnay on the hillsides of Pierreclos, Vergisson and Davayé, in the Mâconnais. Jean-Marie Guffens also founded the négociant house Verget, in Sologny.
The vineyard
This Pouilly-Fuissé, classified as Village, comes from two lieux-dits in Vergisson, La Côte and En Carementrant, terroirs that are cooler and later-ripening than other sites in the appellation. En Carementrant benefits from a predominantly eastern exposure, which slightly slows ripening. La Côte, facing north-west, is less precocious and contributes the most vivid acidity to the blend. The soils are very stony and calcareous.
Vinification and ageing
This Pouilly-Fuissé is made exclusively from the free-run juice of the La Côte and En Carementrant parcels. Fermentation takes place naturally, without added yeasts, followed by meticulous ageing on the lees, which aims to polish the wine's vigour without weighing it down.
