Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Monthélie 2023 Domaine Pierre Morey

Tasting

Colour
Revealing a ruby hue of beautiful depth, this red wine captivates with its particularly elegant visual appearance.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with scents of wild strawberries and cranberries. It is then enriched with floral nuances reminiscent of peony, underscored by touches of black pepper and a delicate hint of liquorice.

Palate
Supple and flavourful, the palate offers a beautifully balanced structure. The tannins, remarkably ripe and silky, accompany a lovely expression of red fruit. The overall impression is particularly gourmand and approachable from the outset.

Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with roast poultry, rabbit or traditional lamb. It will also enhance duck with red fruit, stone-grilled meats, or a beef tartare with capers served with a carrot purée with orange. When it comes to cheese, Époisses is a top choice.

Service and Storage
To fully appreciate the complexity of this Monthélie 2023, serving at a temperature of 16°C is recommended. This vintage can be enjoyed now or cellared to be drunk until around 2035.

The Elegance and Indulgence of a Red Wine from the Monthélie Appellation

The Estate
Rooted in Burgundy since the sixteenth century, the Morey family carries on a long winemaking tradition. Domaine Pierre Morey was founded in 1971 by Pierre, before becoming a pioneer of biodynamics in the region. Spanning ten hectares in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the estate is renowned for the excellence of its wines. Since late 2025, Anne Morey Colette has been solely in charge of running the estate, supported by her son Jean-Victor, thus carrying on invaluable family expertise.

The Vineyard
The grapes that give rise to this Monthélie come from an area of 1.32 hectares spread across six named vineyard plots within the appellation. Planted on average in 1965 on slopes and gentle hillsides, these old vines thrive on a mosaic of soils made up of red earth, chalk and stones, giving the wine a beautiful mineral identity.

The Vintage
The year 2023 stands out for its generosity, born from contrasting weather conditions. After a dry winter and a mild spring, the summer season alternated between hot spells, rainfall and cooler periods. September then brought a providential late warmth, ensuring optimal ripening of the berries.

Winemaking and Aging
The harvest for the Monthélie 2023 is carried out entirely by hand, followed by careful transport to the cellar. Fermentation begins spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. Finally, the wine undergoes one year of ageing in French oak barrels, lending finesse and complexity to the whole.

Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
