The estate
Founded in 1999 with just one hectare of vines, Domaine Sylvain Pataille is located in Marsannay-la-Côte, in the prestigious region of Burgundy. Today, Sylvain Pataille, joined by his brother Laurent, oversees a vineyard spanning 17.5 hectares. A key figure in the Côte de Nuits, the owner has greatly contributed to the revival of his appellation. The estate stands out for its deep commitment to biodynamics, favoring horse-drawn ploughing and respectful methods to express the true essence of its terroirs.
The vineyard
The vines dedicated to this wine flourish within the Marsannay appellation, often described as the golden gateway to the Côte de Nuits. The vineyard benefits from exposures ranging from east to south, on slopes with altitudes varying between 255 and 390 meters. The soils, of great geological diversity, rest on Middle Jurassic formations combining limestone, marl, and alluvial pebbles. The vines are cultivated with the utmost respect for biodiversity and ecosystems, with traditional horse-drawn ploughing aimed at preserving the vitality of the soils.
The vintage
The year 2022 was marked by extreme weather conditions, characterized by intense heat and severe drought beginning in mid-July. This climate created significant water stress, requiring constant adaptation in the vineyards. Despite these climatic challenges, the growing cycle allowed for the harvest of berries with remarkable freshness and balance.
Winemaking and aging
The production of the Marsannay Village 2022 follows a minimal-intervention philosophy. Fermentation is triggered naturally by the indigenous yeasts present on the grapes. The wine then undergoes careful aging in French oak barrels for about 18 months. To preserve the full purity and vibrancy of the fruit, the proportion of new barrels is deliberately kept very low.
Grape variety
Chardonnay (100%).
