Description
Tasting notes for Philia by Guillemette Ferrando 2023 from Famille Isabel Ferrando
Tasting
Nose
The nose reveals a delicate fragrance of wild strawberries, accompanied by black cherries and raspberries, offering a fresh and refined expression.
Palate
The attack is fresh, followed by fine tannins on the mid-palate. The aromatic palette unfolds around cherry, peony and pomegranate, enhanced by notes of apricot, tea leaves and damp undergrowth. The tannic structure, remarkably fine, develops with suppleness, while freshness and vibrancy shape the entire tasting. This energetic 2023 vintage wine shows perfect balance.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs harmoniously with white meat in sauce or roasted leg of lamb.
A vibrant, delicate Châteauneuf-du-Pape from the new generation of Famille Isabel Ferrando
The estate
Founded in the 1920s by Fernand Serre, a notable figure from Avignon and a pioneer in marketing wine in bottle, Domaine Saint-Préfert experienced a renaissance in 2003 under the impetus of Isabel Ferrando. Today, her daughter Guillemette Ferrando is joining this family adventure. Based in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhône Valley, the estate farms terroirs of pebbles, gravel and sand. Certified organic and farmed biodynamically, it champions finesse and elegance through a respectful parcel-by-parcel approach and innovative, farmer-led viticulture.
The vineyard
As the first wine created by Guillemette Ferrando, "Philia" comes from parcels on the Saint Prefert terroir in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, characterized by soils of rounded pebbles, gravel and sand. The blend brings together vines of Grenache Noir, Counoise and Cinsault. Total production of this cuvée—whose name means "friend" in Ancient Greek, or "the daughter" (Filia) in Latin—amounts to 4,500 bottles.
Winemaking and ageing
Ageing in large oak foudres and concrete.
Grape varieties
This Rhône Valley wine is a blend of Counoise (70%), Grenache (20%) and Cinsault (10%).
