Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Tournant de Pouilly" Cuvée Hors Classe 2022 by J.-A. Ferret
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a delicate pale golden hue.
Nose
In its youth, the bouquet is initially discreet. With aeration, it releases subtle floral notes reminiscent of linden blossom, harmoniously paired with hints of fresh almond.
Palate
The palate stands out with a delicately chalky texture, leading to a finish that is at once remarkably fresh, powerful and particularly persistent.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as subtly spiced scallop ravioli, turbot served with hollandaise sauce, or white meats in sauce, like poultry with morels. It will also enhance an aged hard cheese, such as a mature Comté.
Serving and cellaring
To fully enjoy the complexity of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Tournant de Pouilly" Cuvée Hors Classe 2022, it is advisable to aerate it before serving due to its initially discreet character. This great white wine has exceptional cellaring potential, allowing it to evolve favourably in the cellar for several decades.
The elegance of a great Burgundy terroir crafted by J.-A. Ferret
The estate
Founded in 1840, the J.A. Ferret estate is a true benchmark in the Mâconnais, in Burgundy. Historically led by the women of the family, the property distinguished itself through its innovative approach to single-plot vinification. Since its acquisition in 2008, the renowned négociant Louis Jadot has been the current owner, ensuring that the unique identity of this exceptional vineyard is preserved. Today, Clément Robinet, who took over the management in 2023, perpetuates this historic expertise by combining tradition and technical precision to reveal the finest terroirs of the appellation.
The vineyard
This wine comes from a historic plot of around one hectare, divided into two sections and located within the prestigious 1er Cru "Les Reisses", to the north of the village of Fuissé, on the edge of the hamlet of Pouilly. This terroir of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation enjoys a north-easterly exposure on a gentle slope. The vines, whose average age exceeds 60 years, were planted by Jean-Alfred Ferret in 1955, 1963 and 1964. They thrive on deep, silty-clay and highly calcareous soils, derived from pale Dogger marls, with no stones on the surface. It should be noted that a small 15-are section, replanted in 2018, has not yet been incorporated into this cuvée.
Winemaking and aging
The creation of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Tournant de Pouilly" Cuvée Hors Classe 2022 relies on meticulous methods. Fermentation and the first phase of aging take place in oak barrels (25 % new wood and 75 % barrels of one to three wines) over a period of ten months. The wine then undergoes a further nine months of aging in stainless steel tanks, in contact with its lees, in order to gain in texture and complexity.
