Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Bourgogne Côte d'Or "Les Riaux" 2023 Jean-Charles Fagot

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a vivid cherry-red hue, enhanced by deep ruby glints and a lovely translucency.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet proves rich and generous, releasing intense notes of red fruit that blend harmoniously with spicy touches and hints of Mediterranean herbs.

Palate
The palate offers a sophisticated tannic structure, perfectly balanced by a lovely natural acidity. Thanks to the year's fine concentration, the finish stretches out at length, leaving a lasting aromatic impression.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with roasted poultry such as chicken or squab, as well as with fine cured meats and delicate terrines. It also enhances mushroom-based dishes, such as a risotto or a gratin, and is an ideal accompaniment to red meats grilled over a wood fire.

The authentic expression of a Bourgogne Côte d'Or wine

The estate

Although the family has been established in the region since 1860, the estate was officially founded in 1920. Located in Burgundy, it is now run by Jean-Charles Fagot. The producer stands out for his hybrid approach, combining winemaking with gastronomy. The estate champions a philosophy centred on authenticity, offering accessible cuvées that faithfully reflect their terroir of origin, while maintaining a genuine independence of spirit.

The vineyard

This Bourgogne wine comes from plots spread around Corpeau and Chassagne-Montrachet. The vines benefit from an ideal south-east exposure. The terroir is made up of ancient alluvium, silt, gravel and limestone fragments. Committed to preserving its environment, the estate practises sustainable farming, complemented by horse-drawn ploughing in certain sectors to maintain soil vitality.

The vintage

The year benefited from particularly favourable weather conditions, marked by generous sunshine and high summer temperatures. Moderate rainfall encouraged optimal ripening of the berries, resulting in a harvest of remarkable concentration.

Winemaking and aging

Following rigorously selective hand-harvesting, the Bourgogne Côte d'Or "Les Riaux" 2023 undergoes traditional, natural winemaking. The wine is then aged in large wooden foudres, allowing for gentle extraction and a harmonious development of structure without excessive oxidation.

Grape variety

Pinot Noir.
