Jean Chartron : Montrachet Grand cru 2025
En Primeur Wines – delivery in early 2028
Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Montrachet Grand Cru 2025 Jean Chartron
Tasting
Appearance
This white wine displays a golden hue with subtle green highlights in its youth.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of white-fleshed fruit such as peach and pear, mingled with hints of citrus and white flowers. Oak ageing contributes indulgent aromas of butter and toast, all supported by a deep minerality reminiscent of warm stone.
Palate
With a rich, dense texture, the palate is spirited and profoundly mineral. A fine acidic backbone carries the wine through to a long, saline finish.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with fine fish in beurre blanc, refined shellfish, and white meats or poultry in cream sauce. It will also make a superb match for hard cooked-curd cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, serve this Montrachet Grand Cru 2025 at a temperature of 13 to 15°C. Light decanting for around thirty minutes may prove beneficial while the wine is young. Built to age, it can be cellared until around 2040.
The elegance and minerality of a great Burgundy wine
The estate
Founded in 1859 by cooper and winegrower Jean-Edouard Dupard, the Jean Chartron estate is a historic figure in Burgundy. It was in fact its founder who initiated the addition of the name "Montrachet" to the village of Puligny in 1873. Today, Jean-Michel Chartron, representing the fifth generation, runs the estate alongside his sister Anne-Laure. The domaine tends a vineyard of approximately 14.5 hectares in the Côte de Beaune, renowned for its remarkable heritage of premiers and grands crus, carefully cultivated with an environmentally respectful approach.
The vineyard
The Montrachet climat lies on a gentle, east-facing mid-slope. The vines thrive on stony clay-limestone soils that provide excellent drainage and warm up quickly in spring. Since 2004, the estate has practised sustainable and organic viticulture, though without certification, with entirely manual harvesting to preserve the purity of the fruit.
The vintage
The estate describes 2025 in Burgundy as a vintage defined by balance and elegance. Weather conditions yielded grapes of fine concentration while preserving remarkable freshness.
Vinification and ageing
The Montrachet Grand Cru 2025 is vinified in the traditional manner. Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in oak barrels. The wine then undergoes extended ageing on fine lees for around twelve months, in 50% new barrels and 50% barrels previously used for one to three vintages, lending complexity and structure.
