Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Clos du Cailleret" 2024 by Jean Chartron

Tasting

Appearance
The glass reveals a brilliant ruby red colour, laced with sparkling highlights.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with intense aromas of small red and black fruits, such as cherry, raspberry and blackberry. Delicate spicy notes and a subtle oaky touch elegantly underline the whole.

Palate
The palate offers a silky texture and tannins of great finesse. The balance is remarkable between the lusciousness of the fruit and a lovely mineral freshness, leading to a persistent and harmonious finish.

Food and wine pairings

This red Burgundy wine will beautifully complement roasted meats such as beef tenderloin, duck breast with cherries, or matured soft-rind cheeses.

Serving and cellaring

To reveal all its complexity, it is recommended to serve this wine between 15 and 17°C. It can be enjoyed today or kept in the cellar until 2034 to develop tertiary aromas.

The rarity of a great Pinot Noir from an exceptional terroir

The estate

Founded in 1859 by the cooper Jean-Édouard Dupard, the Jean Chartron estate is a true institution firmly rooted at the heart of the Côte de Beaune. Today led by Jean-Michel Chartron, who represents the fifth generation, the estate carries on an exceptional family legacy. It stands out for its environmentally respectful approach and its constant pursuit of the pure expression of terroir, producing Burgundy wines renowned for their precision.

The vineyard

While the Puligny-Montrachet appellation is world-famous for its great white wines, it also shelters a few rare and precious plots of Pinot Noir. The "Clos du Cailleret" is an exceptional terroir that takes its name from the small limestone pebbles, known as "cailleaux", that scatter its soils. These unique geological features give the wine a mineral signature and a singular elegance.

The vintage

The 2024 vintage brought contrasting weather conditions to the region. The growing cycle nevertheless allowed Pinot Noir to reach optimal phenolic ripeness, yielding grapes of great quality with a remarkable balance between aromatic development and freshness.

Winemaking and ageing

The grapes are hand-harvested, allowing for a rigorous sorting of the clusters at optimal ripeness. Vinification is carried out gently to extract the finesse of the tannins. Ageing then takes place in French oak barrels, giving the wine its polish and aromatic complexity before bottling.

Grape variety

Pinot Noir (100%).
