Decanter

The Perrières from Jean-Michel Chartron is a beautiful, clean expression of the village, offering ripe pear and floral aromas with an edge of spice and chalky minerals. There seems to be a better integration of the wood here. The texture is light and bright, with a delicate balance between the wine's fresh acidity and its weight. The parcel is 0.29ha in the Perrières lieu-dit (part of premier cru Frionnes). This elegant wine should be approachable within two to three years, and should drink well over the ensuing 10 to 15 years.

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Saint-Aubin 1er cru "Perrières" 2024 Jean Chartron

Tasting

Colour
With beautiful clarity, this wine displays a bright pale lemon-yellow hue.

Nose
The bouquet opens with delicate floral aromas and mineral notes of flint. It then reveals a fine complexity with touches of almond paste, vanilla and subtle woody, slightly herbaceous nuances.

Palate
The palate offers a firm, flattering texture, carried by a lovely mineral tension. There is remarkable balance between the freshness of the fruit, the vanilla notes from the ageing and the ferrous minerality typical of its terroir.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood such as lobster or langoustine, as well as with grilled fish or fish in cream sauce. It will also pair very well with creamy white meats, vegetable-based dishes or mild aged cheeses.

Service and storage

Approachable in its youth, this Saint-Aubin 1er cru "Perrières" 2024 can be enjoyed now, but it also has the ageing potential to evolve favourably until at least 2032.

The mineral elegance and precision of a white Burgundy

The estate

Founded in 1859 by Jean-Edouard Dupard, the Domaine Jean Chartron is a historic figure in Burgundy. Today, the fifth generation, embodied by Jean-Michel Chartron in winemaking and his sister Anne-Laure in vineyard management, runs this independent family estate. The vineyard spans 14.5 hectares across several prestigious appellations. The estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach, cultivating its vines according to uncertified organic principles, in order to reveal the purest expression of its terroirs.

The vineyard

The terroir from which this Saint-Aubin originates lies at an altitude of between 300 and 350 metres, on the right bank of the valley. The "Les Perrières" plot is characterised by gentle slopes and shallow clay-limestone soils, particularly stony and rich in ferrous marl. The vines, around 40 years old, are cultivated with a high planting density and limited yields to concentrate the aromas. Maintenance is carried out without herbicides or pesticides, favouring rigorous canopy management.

The vintage

The 2024 vintage was influenced by rather cool climatic conditions, allowing for a slow and extended ripening of the berries. This climate favoured the preservation of a lovely natural acidity and the development of great aromatic complexity.

Winemaking and ageing

The grapes for this Saint-Aubin 1er cru "Perrières" 2024 are harvested entirely by hand. The whole bunches are then gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, 25% of which are new and 75% previously used for one to five vintages. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged on fine lees for 12 months without stirring. Finally, it rests for a further four months in tank before bottling.

Grape variety

This wine is 100% Chardonnay.
