Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru "En Caradeux" 2024 by Louis Latour
Tasting
Appearance
This Chardonnay shows a pale yellow colour with brilliant highlights, the visual signature of the Côte de Beaune whites crafted by Maison Louis Latour.
Nose
The nose combines notes of fresh almond with touches of brioche and vanilla, inherited from ageing in barrels from the house's own cooperage, all set against a pronounced mineral backbone.
Palate
The palate is ample, driven by a saline tension characteristic of the "En Caradeux" terroir, and extends into a long, mineral and saline finish.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs ideally with shellfish and fine fish, whose delicacy it enhances with its freshness and minerality.
Serving and cellaring
The Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru "En Caradeux" 2024 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 12 and 14°C, ideal for revealing the full aromatic precision of this Côte de Beaune Chardonnay.
Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru "En Caradeux": a taut, mineral Chardonnay from Maison Louis Latour
The estate
Founded in 1797 in Aloxe-Corton, in Burgundy, Maison Louis Latour is an independent family business, still owned by the Latour family. One of the largest owners of grands crus on the Côte d'Or, the house relies on its own cooperage, integrated since the 18th century, for the ageing of its wines, and pursues a policy of sustainable viticulture.
The vineyard
The "En Caradeux" climat lies in Pernand-Vergelesses, mid-slope, on a due east-facing hillside opposite the hill of Corton. The vines, averaging around 25 years of age, are rooted in stony soil resting on a subsoil of marl and flint-bearing limestone, over a clay-limestone substrate. Yields are kept under control and the harvest is carried out by hand.
Winemaking and ageing
The Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru "En Caradeux" 2024 is aged in barrels from the Maison Louis Latour cooperage. Following the traditional method used for this cuvée, fermentation takes place in oak barrels with full malolactic fermentation, followed by several months of ageing that includes a proportion of new oak.
