Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Volnay 1er Cru "En Chevret" 2024 by Louis Latour

Tasting

Color
The color reveals a beautiful deep ruby red, combining moderate concentration with an elegant translucency.

Nose
The bouquet opens with delicate aromas of blackcurrant and black licorice, enhanced by subtle floral touches as well as notes of coffee and toasted almond.

Palate
The attack is smooth, giving way to a full, round and elegant palate. Aromas of blackcurrant and mocha intertwine with silky, firm tannins. The finish stands out for its remarkable freshness and length.

Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with white meats in creamy mushroom sauces, such as veal with morels. It also enhances game meats (pheasant, wild boar, quail), sautéed forest mushrooms, or firm-textured cheeses such as Époisses or Soumaintrain.

Service and Storage

For optimal tasting, this Volnay 1er Cru "En Chevret" 2024 should be served at a temperature between 15 and 17°C, and opened about two hours before serving. This wine can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2039.

The Authentic Expression of a Volnay Premier Cru by Maison Louis Latour

The Estate

Founded in 1797, Maison Louis Latour is an iconic family institution in Burgundy, France. Based in Aloxe-Corton, it oversees a 48-hectare vineyard, including 27 hectares classified as Grands Crus, making it the largest estate of this rank in the region. Now led by Florent Latour, the estate is distinguished by its traditional approach, its historic gravity-flow cellar dating back to 1832, and its own in-house cooperage. It embodies more than two centuries of winemaking expertise.

The Vineyard

The Volnay 1er Cru "En Chevret" 2024 comes from a plot located south of Beaune, on the border of the village of Meursault. Facing east-northeast, the Volnay vines, averaging 25 years of age, thrive on a terroir made up of clay and limestone. The upper section features shallow, stony soils, while the lower section is characterized by deeper reddish clays. Yields are deliberately kept low, and the harvest is carried out entirely by hand.

The Vintage

The year 2024 was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions. The growing cycle had to contend with late spring frosts, followed by violent hailstorms during the summer. Finally, heavy rainfall in September disrupted the final ripening phase, leading to a very significant drop in yields for this harvest.

Winemaking and Aging

The Volnay 1er Cru "En Chevret" 2024 is vinified in the traditional manner in open vats, relying exclusively on native yeasts. After a short maceration of twelve to fifteen days, the wine is aged for ten to twelve months in medium-toast French oak barrels, crafted by the estate's own cooperage. The proportion of new barrels is strictly limited to 35% in order to preserve the full finesse of the fruit.

Grape Variety

This wine is made from Pinot Noir.
