Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Ermitage "De l'Orée" 2024 by M. Chapoutier
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals an intense golden hue, enhanced by subtle green and gold highlights.
Nose
The nose displays great mineral complexity, evoking warm stones, intertwined with aromas of caramel and ripe citrus. Delicate floral notes of hawthorn and acacia blossom complete this bouquet.
Palate
The attack is broad and generous, offering a rich, almost oily texture. The palate unfolds flavors of ripe fruit, gentle spices, and light woody and toasted notes. The finish, remarkably long, is supported by a beautiful freshness and a hint of bitterness typical of the grape variety.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs beautifully with rich and complex dishes. It will elevate pan-seared foie gras, black truffle risotto, or creamy poultry dishes. It also pairs perfectly with delicately spiced Asian cuisine, seafood in butter sauce, or aged hard cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
Ermitage "De l'Orée" 2024 is a wine built for aging. While it can be enjoyed in its youth, it will continue to evolve and can be cellared until around 2084 under optimal conditions.

The estate
Founded in 1808 in Tain-l'Hermitage, the House of M. Chapoutier is a true institution of the Rhone Valley. While its history began under a different name, the Chapoutier family became involved in 1897. A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in the region, the estate also stands out for including Braille on all its labels since 1996, a symbol of inclusivity. Today, the property is run by Mathilde and Maxime Chapoutier, who continue the family’s excellence and philosophy while bringing a contemporary vision to this internationally renowned vineyard.
The vineyard
This cuvée comes exclusively from the lieu-dit Les Murets, located on the eastern part of the famous hill of Ermitage. This singular terroir is characterized by very old fluvio-glacial alluvial soils and red clay. The vines, aged between 60 and 70 years, are cultivated according to biodynamic principles. They naturally produce low yields, promoting exceptional berry concentration and a pure expression of the terroir.
The vintage
The beginning of the year was marked by below-average rainfall and seasonal temperatures. The summer period proved more unstable, alternating between heat spikes and variable rainfall. Despite a wetter September, moderate temperatures and sufficient water reserves helped preserve a fine level of acidity. Manual harvesting began early in September to ensure optimal balance.
Winemaking and aging
After manual harvesting at optimal ripeness, the grapes undergo light cold settling for twenty-four hours. The vinification of "De l'Orée" 2024 takes place half in demi-muids with regular stirring, and the other half in stainless steel tanks. Aging then continues on full lees for eleven to twelve months, with regular bâtonnage to enhance richness and complexity.
Grape variety
"De l'Orée" 2024 by M. Chapoutier is made from 100% Marsanne.
