Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "En Montceau" 2024 Marc Colin et Fils

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a pale golden hue, enhanced by a brilliant shine.

Nose
Particularly expressive, the nose reveals aromas of citrus fruit and orange oil, harmoniously blended with notes of fresh bread, beeswax, and iodine. The whole is underscored by a pronounced minerality reminiscent of flint.

Palate
The palate offers a superb balance between a generous texture and vibrant acidity. Flavours of lemon and lime combine with touches of white stone fruit and subtle hints of hazelnut. The structure is taut and mineral, extending into a long, saline finish.

Food and Wine Pairing

This white wine pairs beautifully with seafood, oysters, or delicate white fish such as gilt-head bream. It will also enhance asparagus served with girolle mushrooms, walnut vinegar, and fresh goat's cheese, as well as fish dishes with delicate Asian flavours.

Service and Storage

The Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "En Montceau" 2024 will reveal its full potential when served at 12°C. It can be cellared for optimal enjoyment between 2028 and 2034, and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2036.

Other Characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 13% and a pH ranging between 3.15 and 3.20, reflecting its lovely natural freshness.

The Elegance and Mineral Tension of a Saint-Aubin Premier Cru

The Estate

Founded in 1978 in Burgundy, the Marc Colin et Fils estate now spans 11.5 hectares of vines. Currently run by Caroline and Damien Colin, the estate stands out for a philosophy that combines tradition and precision. Spanning 26 appellations, the estate favours a pragmatic environmental approach and minimal-intervention winemaking. The wines produced brilliantly showcase the richness of the region's limestone terroirs, offering remarkable purity and elegance.

The Vineyard

Located on the heights of the hamlet of Gamay within the Saint-Aubin appellation, the "En Montceau" climat benefits from an ideal south-southwest exposure. Sheltered by the surrounding woods, the vines thrive on very shallow soils composed of white marl and limestone outcrops. The estate practises sustainable viticulture here, complemented by experiments in organic farming, thereby fostering the authentic expression of this singular terroir.

The Vintage

The year 2024 was marked by particularly harsh weather conditions in France, with episodes of spring frost followed by high humidity and cool temperatures. These factors led to intense mildew pressure and significantly reduced yields. Nevertheless, the white grapes managed to hold their own, achieving a fine natural balance despite these weather challenges.

Winemaking and Aging

Following an entirely hand-picked harvest, the grapes destined for the Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "En Montceau" 2024 are fully destemmed. Gentle pneumatic pressing delicately extracts the juice, which is then transferred directly into French oak barrels without settling. Aging takes place over ten months in barrels (including 15 to 20% new oak) without any lees stirring, in order to preserve freshness. The wine then rests for six months in inert tanks before bottling.
