Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Chambolle-Musigny "Village" Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs 2023

Tasting notes

Colour
This wine reveals a beautiful red colour.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet expresses great delicacy, opening with elegant floral notes dominated by violet. It then reveals clean aromas of red berries such as raspberry, strawberry and cherry.

Palate
The palate stands out for its silky, airy texture, supported by fine, noble tannins. There is a perfect balance between beautiful fruit maturity and remarkable freshness. The finish offers long aromatic persistence with touches of stone fruit.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with delicately flavoured dishes. It will ideally accompany tender poultry, braised duck or delicate meats such as sautéed lamb. Vegetarian dishes like roasted butternut squash or mushroom pasta also work very well, as do creamy cheeses such as Brillat-Savarin.

Service and storage

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this Chambolle-Musigny "Village" Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs 2023 between 12 and 14°C in its youth, and around 15 to 16°C after a few years of cellaring. It can be enjoyed now but will continue to improve, drinking well through to around 2035.

Other characteristics

To preserve the integrity of its aromas and structure, this wine is bottled without fining or filtration.

The elegance of Pinot Noir at the heart of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation

The estate

Founded at the beginning of the 20th century and officially named as such in 1981, the Méo-Camuzet estate is a key name in Burgundy, France. Located in Vosne-Romanée, the estate spans approximately 17 hectares of vines. Now run by Jean-Nicolas Méo, the estate stands out for its philosophy centred on the natural expression of terroir. In 2003, the Méo-Camuzet Frère et Soeurs négociant structure was created to offer more accessible wines while maintaining the same quality standards and production methods as the historic estate.

The vineyard

The grapes for this Chambolle-Musigny come from vines aged between 20 and 80 years. The terroir is characterised by well-drained, stony clay-limestone soils, resting on a subsoil of Comblanchien limestone. The overall east and southeast-facing exposure offers ideal conditions for berry ripening while preserving their natural freshness. The estate's team rigorously monitors these plots throughout the year.

The vintage

2023 stands out as one of the hottest years in the region's recent history. The growing cycle was punctuated by several heatwaves, fortunately tempered by well-timed storms that provided the water the vines needed. A final wave of heat during the harvest allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness, resulting in a generous and high-quality crop.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Chambolle-Musigny "Village" Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs 2023 are harvested by hand in perforated crates. Upon arrival at the winery, the berries undergo a cold maceration lasting a few days. Fermentation is accompanied by pump-overs followed by gentle punching down, with a proportion of whole-bunch fermentation ranging from 20 to 50%. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, 20 to 25% of which are new, for 14 to 18 months before blending in tank.
