Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Nuits-Saint-Georges Village Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs 2019
Tasting
Appearance
The wine shows a beautiful ruby hue, which can deepen to a dense, intense colour.
Nose
The bouquet opens with expressive notes of red and black fruits, such as cherry, morello cherry and blackcurrant. This fruity ensemble is subtly underscored by touches of spice and hints of forest floor.
Palate
On the palate, this wine combines a solid frame with a structuring acidity. The tannins, though firm, blend into an elegant texture that highlights the brightness of the fruit, stretching into a persistent and harmonious finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs ideally with roasted or grilled meats, such as a rib of beef or a hanger steak. It is also a wonderful match for dishes in brown sauce, delicate game, full-flavoured poultry, and washed-rind cheeses such as Époisses or Langres.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate this wine, we recommend serving it at a temperature of around 15 to 16°C, opening the bottle two hours before tasting. It can be enjoyed now, but has the ageing potential to be cellared until around 2034.
The Elegance and Precision of a Great Burgundy Wine by Méo-Camuzet
The Estate
Based in Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of Burgundy, Méo-Camuzet has winegrowing roots dating back to the 17th century, although its current name and formal creation date from 1981. Now led by Jean-Nicolas Méo, this family estate has risen to the top of the regional hierarchy thanks to its remarkable commitment to quality. In order to offer more accessible cuvées while preserving the identity of the house, an unconventional négoce structure was founded. It allows the estate to control the cultivation and vinification of carefully selected parcels, reflecting the full expertise of the domaine.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, renowned for its predominantly limestone and marl-limestone terroirs. Although this is a négoce activity, the estate's team is directly involved in monitoring the parcels over several years. Vineyard management is inspired by organic farming, favouring ploughing, reasoned pruning, meticulous canopy management and strict yield control to encourage an authentic expression of the terroir.
The Vintage
The 2019 vintage was marked by episodes of heat and drought, resulting in low yields. However, these climatic conditions produced grapes of excellent phenolic ripeness, giving rise to concentrated, balanced wines with a lovely freshness.
Winemaking and Maturation
After an entirely hand-harvested picking and rigorous sorting, the grapes are destemmed. Vinification begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration lasting three to five days, followed by fermentation at carefully controlled temperatures to favour finesse. Extraction is gentle, through measured punching down and pumping over. Maturation takes place in oak barrels, with a proportion of new oak adapted to preserve the fruit. Finally, bottling is carried out by gravity, without fining or filtration.
