Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" 2023 Remoissenet Père et Fils

Tasting

Colour
This white wine from France displays a pale to medium gold colour, with fine clarity and great brilliance.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals itself as complex, unveiling first notes of yellow fruit such as ripe apple, pear and dried apricot, underlined by hints of citrus. The whole is enriched by vanilla and buttery nuances, as well as a pronounced minerality evoking chalk and flint.

Palate
The attack offers a beautiful acidity that structures the palate. The texture is rich and opulent, perfectly balanced by great mineral precision. The mid-palate unfolds flavours of yellow and exotic fruit, accompanied by subtle spiced notes. The finish is long and lingering.

Food and wine pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with grilled or poached fish, as well as with shellfish such as lobster or Dublin Bay prawns. It also enhances white meats in creamy sauces, veal sweetbreads, delicate white vegetables, or soft-rind cheeses and matured cheeses from the region.

Service and storage

This Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" 2023 deserves to age for a few years in the cellar to develop its full complexity. It can be enjoyed until around 2033.

The estate

Founded in 1879 by Pierre-Alfred Remoissenet in the heart of Beaune, the house of Remoissenet Père et Fils is an essential institution in Burgundy. Historically renowned for its trading activity, the estate took a new qualitative direction following its acquisition in 2005 by a consortium led by Edward L. Milstein. Now presided over by Pierre-Antoine Rovani, the estate spans some forty hectares. Guided by the expertise of oenologist Claudie Jobard, the house combines respect for historic traditions with biodynamic viticultural practices to produce wines of great purity.

The vineyard

The terroir of Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" is located in the southern part of the appellation, on elevated plots benefiting from a south-easterly exposure. The vines, some of which are over fifty years old, thrive on complex soils composed of compact limestone and iron oxide. The estate applies biodynamic viticultural principles, favouring low yields and meticulous vine care to ensure optimal grape quality.

The vintage

The year 2023 was marked by demanding weather conditions for grape growing. Nevertheless, rigorous management of the harvest, carried out at the end of August, made it possible to pick berries of exceptional quality, reaching ideal phenolic and sugar ripeness.

Winemaking and ageing

After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes for this Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" 2023 undergo gentle whole-bunch pressing at low temperature. Fermentation begins thanks to indigenous yeasts in 350-litre French oak barrels. The wine is then aged for around eighteen months on the lees with minimal stirring. The barrels used, half of which are new, underwent a very long and gentle toasting to preserve the brightness of the fruit.

Grape variety

100% Chardonnay.
