Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Anglada 2023 Roc d'Anglade
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a ruby hue of moderate, luminous intensity, with subtle violet reflections at the edges.
Nose
The nose opens with aromas of fresh red and black fruits such as blackcurrant, blueberry, cherry and plum. With aeration, it reveals notes of garrigue herbs such as thyme, lavender and wild fennel, underpinned by a beautiful mineral backbone.
Palate
On the palate, this wine stands out for its elegance and tension. The fruit is juicy, carried by fine, perfectly integrated tannins. The finish, remarkably persistent, offers a deep, delightful salinity, highlighting a great mineral freshness.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs beautifully with a lamb and hen tagine served with black olives and date couscous. It also brilliantly accompanies braised duck, small feathered game such as quail, grilled beef, as well as gratin dauphinois and Mediterranean-inspired dishes.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate the Anglada 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of between 16 and 17°C. This wine is built for long-term ageing and can be enjoyed until around 2045, with a peak expected between 2032 and 2040.
The elegance and mineral precision of a Languedoc wine by Roc d'Anglade
The estate
Founded in 1999, Roc d'Anglade is a 9.5 to 10.5-hectare estate located in the Languedoc, within the historic village of Langlade. Now run by its owners, Rémy and Martine Pédreno, the estate stands out for its philosophy, which goes against the regional norm. Farmed organically and biodynamically, the vineyard produces wines that favour finesse, elegance and the pure expression of terroir over power. Roc d'Anglade has thus established itself as a benchmark for lovers of wines from the south of France.
The vineyard
This cuvée, produced under the IGP Pays du Gard, comes from vines aged between 25 and 30 years, planted on the Canzert and Mégères plots. Located on the heights of Langlade, at the heart of the garrigue, this terroir benefits from north, east and south-west facing exposures. The soils consist of calcareous marl resting on a clay-silica-limestone base, giving the wine its characteristic minerality. The vines, trained in goblet and double Cordon de Royat systems, have a density of around 4,000 vines per hectare. The estate practises very low yields, harvesting grapes of optimal quality by hand.
The vintage
2023 began with a late budburst, protecting the vines from formidable spring frosts. The growing season was then marked by unstable weather, alternating between heat, drought and rainy periods. These conditions caused coulure, reducing yields but favouring a beautiful concentration in the remaining berries. Autumn offered mild, ideal conditions to complete ripening, resulting in healthy harvests and a growing season of excellent balance.
Winemaking and aging
The Anglada 2023 is vinified using whole bunches, with no crushing or destemming, in open vats for around fifteen days. Fermentation starts spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts, with a strict commitment to avoiding any mechanical extraction. The wine is then transferred by gravity for a total ageing period of 18 months. It first spends 12 months on fine lees in large wooden vessels with light stirring, before spending 6 months in stainless steel tanks. A very light filtration precedes bottling.
Grape varieties
This wine is a blend of Cinsault (60%) and Syrah (40%).
