Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Cornas Coteaux 2025 by Tardieu-Laurent
Serving and cellaring
As is customary for this cuvée, the Cornas Coteaux 2025 will benefit from being decanted about two hours before serving, at a temperature of around 16°C, to allow its bouquet to fully unfold. As no official cellaring recommendation is currently available for this vintage, we invite you to contact our team for any further advice on its ageing potential.
A Cornas by Tardieu-Laurent, born on the granite slopes of the appellation
The estate
Founded in 1996 in Lourmarin, in the heart of the Luberon, Tardieu-Laurent is a négociant-éleveur dedicated to the Rhône Valley. Without any vineyards of its own, it relies on a network of partner growers to select old-vine parcels, aged between forty and one hundred and twenty years, in appellations such as Cornas, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Led today by the Tardieu family - Michel, Michèle, Bastien and Camille -, the house upholds an approach to ageing inspired by Burgundy, applied to Rhône terroirs to craft characterful micro-cuvées.
The vineyard
The Coteaux cuvée comes from old Syrah vines planted on the granite slopes of the Cornas appellation, notably in the lieux-dits Savaux, Chaillots and Patou, and, depending on available volumes, Les Eygats. These very steep slopes, facing due south and south-east, rest on soils of hard and decomposed granite, which ensure natural drainage and gradual ripening of the grapes while preserving a mineral freshness that is characteristic of this terroir.
Winemaking and ageing
True to the house philosophy, the winemaking for this cuvée traditionally relies on partial destemming, at a level of 50%, which brings structure and aromatic complexity. Ageing continues in French oak barrels, sourced notably from the forests of Tronçais and Allier, for up to twenty-four months, sometimes followed by a period in large oak vats (foudres). The bottling of the Cornas Coteaux 2025 follows this same approach of minimal intervention, with no fining or filtration, in order to preserve the authenticity of the terroir.
