Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Bourgogne Gamay "Les 2 Terres" 2023 by Thibault Liger-Belair
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The wine shows a medium-intensity ruby hue, with subtle violet highlights in its youth.
Nose
The bouquet opens with expressive notes of fresh red and black fruits, such as cherry, blueberry and blackcurrant. These are delicately underscored by floral touches reminiscent of peony, along with spicy nuances of pepper and sweet tobacco.
Palate
On the palate, this dry red wine from France offers a supple, silky texture, carried by a medium body and lovely freshness. The tannins are fine and round, leading to a crisp, easy-drinking finish with no trace of oak.
Food and Wine Pairings
This red wine is a wonderful companion to bistro cuisine. It pairs beautifully with hand-cut beef tartare, premium offal such as calf's liver, or roast poultry. It will also elevate fine charcuterie and mild soft-ripened cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully enjoy the Bourgogne Gamay "Les 2 Terres" 2023, we recommend serving it at a temperature of 13 to 15°C. While it is already approachable in its youth, it can be cellared for three to eight years after the harvest to develop greater complexity.
The Distinctive Expression of a Bourgogne Gamay by Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair
The Estate
Heir to a long family line that has been active in the wine trade since 1720, Thibault Liger-Belair founded his own estate in 2001. Located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in Burgundy, the property spans just over seven hectares of vines. A pioneer of organic and biodynamic farming in the region, the winemaker favours working the soils by horse and gentle winemaking methods. Today, the estate stands out for its bold cross-regional approach, combining the prestigious terroirs of the Côte de Nuits with those of Beaujolais to create distinctive cuvées that are easy to drink and remarkably precise.
The Vineyard
This cuvée is the result of a blend of grapes from two distinct regions. On one side, the granitic terroirs of the Beaujolais crus, such as Moulin-à-Vent, Chénas and Fleurie. On the other, the limestone soils of the Côte d'Or, with parcels located in the Bourgogne Pinot Noir appellation and in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits. The vines are cultivated according to biodynamic principles, with particular attention paid to soil life, and the grapes are harvested entirely by hand.
Winemaking and Ageing
The production of the Bourgogne Gamay "Les 2 Terres" 2023 relies on very gentle extractions to preserve the brightness of the fruit. Fermentation lasts approximately three weeks, with around 30% whole clusters included. The wine is then aged for twelve months in multi-vintage oak barrels, with no new oak used at all, so as not to mask the natural expression of the terroirs.
Grape Varieties
This wine is made from a blend of approximately 85% Gamay and 15% Pinot Noir.
