Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Meursault 2022 Vincent Girardin
Tasting
Colour
A beautiful straw-yellow hue, bright and brilliantly clear.
Nose
Deep and marked by great minerality, the nose reveals a complex bouquet blending orchard fruit aromas (pear, green apple, white peach) with citrus zest. Delicate floral notes intertwine with touches of fresh butter, hazelnut and gunflint, subtly underscored by light woody spice.
Palate
Precise and energetic, the palate is seductive in its breadth and concentration. Carried by vibrant acidity and a linear tension, it offers an elegant, slightly creamy texture. The tasting experience extends into a long, saline, mineral finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with noble fish, such as grilled sea bass, or seafood like scallops. It also enhances shellfish in creamy sauces, white meats accompanied by mushrooms, as well as aged pressed or soft-rind cheeses. For a touch of originality, a porcini risotto or asparagus with mousseline sauce make for a very harmonious pairing.
Service and Storage
For optimal tasting, this wine is best served at a temperature of 12°C. Boasting excellent aging potential, it can be enjoyed now or left to rest in the cellar for drinking until around 2035.
Other Characteristics
This wine is made from vines cultivated according to strict organic and biodynamic principles, excluding any use of synthetic products. Remarkably, bottling is carried out in strict accordance with the lunar calendar.
The Mineral Freshness and Elegance of a Great Meursault by Vincent Girardin
The Estate
Founded in 1980 by Vincent Girardin with just two hectares, the eponymous estate is today an essential reference in Burgundy. Based in Meursault, the estate spans approximately 33 hectares of vines cultivated with great environmental rigour. Since 2012, the house has belonged to the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois, chaired by Jean-Pierre Nié. Under the technical direction of Éric Germain, the Vincent Girardin estate favours a minimal-intervention philosophy, seeking purity and the authentic expression of its terroirs. This pursuit of excellence earned the Vincent Girardin house the title of Négociant of the Year in 2023.
The Vineyard
Located at the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the vineyard flourishes across varied terroirs, notably within the Meursault appellation, with well-drained soils composed of fine marl, calcareous scree and clay-limestone. The vines benefit from high trellising to optimise sun exposure and airflow. Vineyard management is extremely rigorous: no synthetic herbicides or insecticides are used. The soils are deeply ploughed several times a year and fed exclusively with organic compost, fostering rich biodiversity and deep rooting.
The Vintage
2022 offered very favourable climatic conditions. Following a late budbreak that helped avoid spring frosts, the vines benefited from a hot, dry summer. A few well-timed rains helped perfect the growing cycle, allowing the grapes to reach optimal concentration while preserving beautiful natural acidity.
Winemaking and Aging
The harvest is entirely done by hand, followed by careful sorting both in the vineyard and at the winery. After gentle pneumatic pressing for slow extraction and light settling, the musts begin their alcoholic and malolactic fermentations in French oak barrels using indigenous yeasts. Aging continues on fine lees for 16 to 18 months, with a moderate proportion of new oak and without systematic lees stirring. The final blend is assembled in stainless steel tanks one month before bottling, followed by light fining and gentle filtration.
