Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Vincent Girardin's Meursault 1er Cru "Les Genevrières" 2024

Tasting Notes

Appearance
This wine reveals a golden hue, particularly bright and luminous.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with enticing notes of almond, fresh bread and toasted dried fruits. It is then enriched with subtle touches of fine spices, vanilla and delicate hints of citrus.

Palate
Full-bodied and generous, the palate is both concentrated and highly elegant. It is underpinned by lively acidity and a beautiful minerality, extending into a long, persistent saline finish.

Food and Wine Pairing
This cuvée pairs beautifully with poultry in creamy sauces, such as chicken in cream sauce, or with fine fish like skate with brown butter. It will also elevate a white truffle risotto or full-flavoured cheeses such as Époisses.

Serving and Cellaring
It is recommended to serve the Meursault 1er Cru "Les Genevrières" 2024 at a temperature of 12°C. With excellent ageing potential, this wine can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2034.

The Elegance and Minerality of a Great Meursault from Vincent Girardin

The Estate
The story of the house began in 1982 when Vincent Girardin established himself with just a few hectares. Now based in Meursault, at the heart of the great Burgundy wine region, the estate has become an essential reference. Éric and Léo-Paul Germain now head the estate and run the Vincent Girardin brand, upholding the founder's spirit. The domaine stands out for its "haute couture" approach, prioritising absolute respect for the terroirs, practices inspired by biodynamics, and natural vinifications to reveal the full purity and energy of the wines.

The Vineyard
The Genévrières plot is located south of the village of Meursault, on a mid-slope hillside. The vines, around 60 years old, thrive on a shallow, homogeneous clay-limestone soil dating from the Bathonian period, characterised by the presence of white marl. The vineyard is managed with great environmental rigour: the soils are deeply ploughed, with no use of herbicides or insecticides. Pruning is carried out using the Guyot Poussard method, accompanied by rigorous green harvesting to control yields.

The Vintage
2024 proved to be a particularly challenging year climatically in the Côte de Beaune. Constant disease pressure demanded round-the-clock vigilance and numerous interventions in the vineyards. Despite these weather-related challenges, this growing cycle produced white wines of great quality, distinguished by their freshness, brightness and remarkable balance.

Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for the Meursault 1er Cru "Les Genevrières" 2024 are hand-harvested and carefully sorted both in the vineyard and at the winery. After slow pneumatic pressing and light settling, the musts undergo alcoholic and malolactic fermentation using indigenous yeasts and bacteria. Ageing takes place in 228-litre French oak barrels (15% new oak) on fine lees for 18 months, without any lees stirring. One month before bottling, which is carried out according to the lunar calendar, the wine is blended in a stainless steel tank, then lightly fined and filtered.
