In-Stock
Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Pucelles" 2023 Vincent Girardin
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a pale yellow hue with green highlights, distinguished by its beautiful brilliance and clarity.
Nose
Remarkably precise, the nose exhales subtle aromas of white fruits, such as pear and apple, harmoniously blended with delicate notes of white flowers. A mineral streak reminiscent of gunflint rounds out this bouquet.
Palate
The palate seduces with its smooth, caressing texture, offering dense and powerful substance. The balance is remarkable thanks to a lovely energy and a pronounced salinity that stretch the wine toward a long, lingering finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This great white wine from France elevates the finest gastronomy. It pairs beautifully with noble fish such as turbot with beurre blanc, roasted shellfish, or poultry in a creamy mushroom sauce. As for cheeses, it is a perfect match for a Brie de Meaux or a Coulommiers.
Service and Storage
To fully appreciate the complexity of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Pucelles" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 11 and 13 °C, ideally in a rounded glass. A light decanting of 30 to 60 minutes can be considered in its youth. Built for aging, this wine can be cellared until around 2038.
The Chiseled Expression of a Great White Terroir from the Côte de Beaune
The Estate
Born of a long winemaking lineage, the Vincent Girardin house was officially founded in the 1980s. Based in Meursault, at the heart of Burgundy, it expanded into a négociant business as early as 1992. Now owned by the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois, the estate retains its identity under the technical direction of Éric Germain. With a vineyard spanning around 33 hectares, the producer stands out for its minimal-intervention, nature-respecting approach, giving rise to parcel-specific cuvées that express the nuances of the region's finest terroirs with great purity.
The Vineyard
This wine comes from the prestigious "Les Pucelles" climat, located in the northern part of the village of Puligny-Montrachet, in close proximity to the grands crus. The vines, around 50 years old, thrive on clay-limestone soils rich in gravel, providing optimal natural drainage. The vineyard is managed with great rigor, incorporating organic practices, meticulous green harvesting and, for certain plots, ploughing with horses to preserve the vitality of the soils.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes destined for the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Pucelles" 2023 are hand-harvested and sorted directly on the vine. In the winery, a light crushing precedes a gentle pneumatic pressing and measured settling. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations occur spontaneously in French oak barrels (15% new) thanks to indigenous yeasts and bacteria. The wine is then aged for 18 months on fine lees, with no lees stirring whatsoever, thereby preserving its tension. Following a racking into tank, bottling is timed according to the lunar and biodynamic calendar, after light fining and filtration.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
