Seña 2022

The 2022 Seña opens on a reticent note, gradually revealing a dark, leather-tinged nose with hints of turned earth, cedar, licorice and graphite that retain a sense of lift and high-toned energy. The palate is lively and spry, driven by bright treble tones balanced by broad, weighty depth and a perfectly suave texture. The finish is juicy yet tense, structured and refined, with impressive length and coiled energy. Ever-expanding in the glass, this is a gorgeous, energetic and exuberant example of poise and clarity that will be a pleasure to follow in the cellar. It’s a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 9% Carmenere and 6% Petit Verdot aged 18 months mainly in French barriques with some foudre.

Elegant and balanced, this offers floral blueberry and cocoa nib details inflected with lemon thyme and anise notes. The palate is smooth in texture, with generous plum and berry flavors. There's a late burst of energy, yet this keeps its focus around polished tannins and a late twinge of coffee bean. Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Carmenère and Petit Verdot. Finesse is Seña's trademark and the 2022 is no exception – this new vintage is intense, vibrant and persistent. A rich ruby red, with aromas of fresh red and black fruit combined with intense floral notes, hints of graphite, wild herbs and spice. It's full-bodied with a tense, refreshing character. The tannins are delicate and fine but provide enough grip, sustaining the palate at length before the fragrant finish. A standout addition to the cellar. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Carmenère and Petit Verdot; matured 18 months in barrels and foudres.

Extremely bright flowers and citrus with graphite, currants and blueberries. The nose is like going into a flower shop. Medium- to full-bodied with extremely polished tannins that caress your palate. The 2022 Seña is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 9% Carménère and 6% Petit Verdot, sourced from the Seña vineyard in Ocoa, Aconcagua Valley. Aged for 20 months, 85% in French oak barrels (66% new) and 15% in foudres, this garnet wine offers a garrigue-like aroma with notes of raspberry, blackberry and flowers over a deep cedar core. Dry and juicy on the palate, the grippy and plush tannins lead to a flavorful and balanced mouthfeel. Compared to other Seña vintages, the 2022 is more intense and nuanced.

Liquorice, aniseed, fennel, cocoa bean; intense and powerful, reflecting a good-quality vintage with low rainfall but few temperature extremes. Harvest from August 5 to 23, with 70% new oak barrels for ageing and 10% 2,500L oak casks. Emily Faulconer, winemaker, coming over from Vina Carmen.
