    Description

Tasting notes and advice for L'Or des Caraïbes Élevé sous Bois

    Tasting

    Appearance

Magnificent golden color with a beautiful, bright, sunlit sheen.

    Nose

A citrus bouquet with a clean, lively attack: lemon, orange blossom, and honey. There are also notes of chocolate-dipped candied orange peel, cocoa, candied exotic fruits, candied shadek (grapefruit), and buttery notes.

    Palate

Freshness and complexity: lemon, vanilla, notes of sugar-roasted pineapple, toasted wheat, and malt. The palate is both smooth and powerful, opening on sweetness before building in a crescendo toward intensity with notes of ginger and cocoa. A beautifully balanced, harmonious, silky rum with astonishing length and perfect elegance.

    Food pairings and tasting moments

This rum will be perfect with oven-baked gratinated seafood, poultry with cream and mushrooms, lemon meringue pie, fruit brioche or exotic fruit brioche, as well as chocolate desserts. Serve at room temperature.

    Mixology

This exceptional rum is best enjoyed neat, without any embellishment, to fully appreciate its complexity and elegance.

A Guadeloupe agricole rum aged in wood with rare elegance

Chantal Comte: a pioneer of independent rum bottling

Founded in the early 1980s by Chantal Comte, this Nîmes-based house remains the world’s first independent rum bottler. A former winegrower in Costières-de-Nîmes for thirty-five years, Chantal Comte brought her exacting wine standards to Caribbean rums, transforming a spirit that was then undervalued. Now the owner of the brand, she exclusively selects cask-strength agricole rums from Martinique and Guadeloupe, notably from the Depaz, La Mauny, and Reimonenq distilleries. Trained by André Depaz himself, she champions authenticity through high-proof bottlings with no additives, refusing any compromise on quality. Her selections—now legendary among international collectors—embody a philosophy of uncompromising excellence.

L'Or des Caraïbes Élevé sous Bois: an exceptional agricole rum from Guadeloupe

L'Or des Caraïbes Élevé sous Bois is a rum agricole, made from pure fresh sugarcane juice from the Reimonenq distillery in Sainte Rose, Guadeloupe, in the Windward Islands. This exceptional spirit was aged for 18 months in the Saint Eloi 88 cellars, in casks from the Atlantic, Marteray, and Cavin cooperages (fine-grain Aphrodite casks).

This limited edition corresponds to the exclusive lot 59/22, meticulously selected by Chantal Comte. Bottled in October 2023 under the R231006 label. This cask-strength agricole rum, bottled at 65% alc./vol. with no additives whatsoever, was awarded three prestigious medals in 2024: a Grand Gold Medal at the Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition in Barcelona, a Grand Gold Medal at the International Wine & Spirits Awards in Barcelona, and a Gold Medal at the Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in China. Part of the profits supports the Caribaea Initiative association, which trains young Caribbean naturalists.
