    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Glenfarclas 15 Years Old

    Tasting

    Nose
The nose reveals a rich aromatic profile reminiscent of Christmas cake. It is dominated by intense notes of dried fruits, caramel, dark chocolate and warm spices. Nuances of tropical fruits, leather, tobacco and a slight sulphury touch typical of the cask add further complexity to this bouquet.

    Palate
The palate proves rich, oily and intensely fruity, faithful to the sherry-driven style. It evolves towards a long, dry and woody finish, elegantly punctuated by notes of coffee, walnut and, at times, a subtle wood smoke.

    Pairings and tasting occasions

This single malt excels as a contemplative whisky or at the end of a meal. It is best enjoyed neat or with a simple dash of water to release all of its aromas.

    Mixology

Thanks to its dense profile strongly shaped by sherry, it lends itself to targeted uses in mixology. It fits perfectly into cocktails of character, where the whisky truly forms the aromatic backbone rather than being a mere background ingredient.

    Other characteristics

This whisky is bottled at 46% ABV, a historical choice made by the family. It is also non chill-filtered, thereby preserving all the richness and original texture of the distillate.

An iconic Speyside Single Malt from the Glenfarclas distillery

Glenfarclas: the excellence of a family-owned Speyside distillery

Officially established in 1836 in the heart of Speyside, near Ballindalloch and at the foot of Ben Rinnes, Glenfarclas is a historic institution of Scotch whisky. A rarity in the industry, the distillery stands out for its uninterrupted family ownership since its origins, with the founding family still at the helm of the estate today. Although located in Speyside, Glenfarclas proudly claims the Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky designation. Production relies on traditional practices, notably a slow distillation that promotes strong contact with the copper, yielding a robust and oily distillate. The true signature of the House lies in its exceptional warehouse stock, made up of a very high proportion of Spanish sherry casks in European oak, ensuring remarkable stylistic continuity and uncompromising quality over the decades.

The 15 Years Old: the pivotal expression of the Glenfarclas style

The 15 Years Old stands as a pivotal expression within the distillery's range. This whisky perfectly embodies the sherry-driven style for which the house is renowned. Crafted from a complex distillate, this Single Malt benefits from extended ageing in European oak sherry casks, a rare specialisation that gives it its rich and intensely fruity signature.

True to tradition, the family made the historic choice to bottle this 15 Years Old at 46% ABV. This decision, combined with the absence of chill filtration and the preservation of its natural colour, helps maintain the full integrity of its oily texture and flavour palette. The analysis of this spirit reveals a remarkable stylistic consistency, while also offering the sensory variability characteristic of great Scotch whiskies of character, bearing witness to the complexity of the crafting process and the exceptional quality of the casks selected for its ageing.
