Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Garden at Hazelwood 47 Years Old House of Hazelwood

    Tasting

    Colour
Clear and luminous, it reveals a hue ranging from light gold to pale honey, a testament to extended ageing in casks that impart colour only delicately.

    Nose
Highly complex, the bouquet opens with a delicate brush of lavender and aromas of freshly cut grass. It then moves towards generous orchard fruit, baked apple and orange peel, underpinned by indulgent touches of honey cake, marzipan and soothing camomile tea.

    Palate
Relatively light-bodied yet rich in nuance, the palate offers a creamy, almost waxy texture. It unfolds with a herbaceous freshness marked by a breeze of mint, thyme and rosemary, crowned by notes of violet, rose and stewed fruit. The medium-to-long finish stands out for the surprising persistence of its green, floral and medicinal notes, accompanied by a subtle touch of oak.

    Pairings and Tasting Occasions
This exceptionally rare spirit invites contemplation during quiet tastings, ideally at the end of a meal. It is best served at 18–20°C in a tulip or Glencairn glass to concentrate its delicate bouquet. Enjoy it neat at first, then, if you wish, add a few drops of water sparingly to observe how it evolves. When it comes to food, it pairs beautifully with light orchard fruit desserts, such as a thin apple tart or a pear clafoutis, as well as with fresh goat's cheeses delicately seasoned with fine herbs.

    Mixology
Given its great age and exceptional aromatic profile, this spirit is intended to be enjoyed neat. Using it in cocktails is not recommended, so as to preserve the full subtlety of its floral and herbaceous nuances.

An Exceptional Floral and Herbaceous Blended Malt from Private Speyside Reserves

House of Hazelwood: The Legacy of a Great Scotch Whisky Family
Officially launched in May 2022, House of Hazelwood holds a unique place in the world of Scotch Whisky. It draws on the vast private reserve built up over almost a century by the Gordon family, the brand's historic and current owners. Rooted around the family residence of Hazelwood House, near Dufftown, the house operates as a luxury independent bottler. Driven by key figures such as Jonathan Gibson, it stands out for a production philosophy free from industrial constraints, favouring the principle of "bottle when ready". The brand is devoted exclusively to crafting very old blends, offering discerning enthusiasts unique collector's pieces that can never be reproduced.

Garden at Hazelwood: A Poetic Ode to Time and Nature
The centrepiece of the Charles Gordon Collection 2024, Garden at Hazelwood 47 Years Old is a blended malt of the utmost rarity. This exceptional Whisky is the result of a meticulous blend of single malts, most likely sourced largely from the Speyside region, although the exact distilleries remain a closely guarded secret of the house.

Although it was distilled in 1972, this spirit is deliberately presented without a vintage, as the brand prefers to highlight its long 47-year maturation rather than a specific year. This approach is firmly rooted in the tradition of the great Scotch whiskies blends, where age and aromatic profile take precedence over the calendar.

In narrative and symbolic terms, this release is a vibrant tribute to the garden of Hazelwood House, a historic refuge for the Gordon family. In contrast to the often heavy, oak-driven profiles of spirits of this age, it was crafted to capture the scented memory of a summer garden, offering a striking contrast through its lightness and freshness. Finally, its ultra-premium presentation, in an elegant, finely crafted decanter and a luxurious case, makes this limited edition a true liquid work of art for the most demanding collectors.
