Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Years Old
Tasting
Appearance
This Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Years Old reveals a golden hue with amber glints, hinting at a accomplished maturation in oak casks.
Nose
The nose opens with aromas of fresh fruit and cut grass, enhanced by pepper, vanilla and sandalwood. A subtle earthy note gives way to orchard fruit and floral touches, while a smoky, gentle and well-integrated base blends with nuances of chocolate and fragrant wood.
Palate
On the palate, this whisky unfolds a round, velvety texture, carried by woody caramel and a delicate smokiness that emerges effortlessly. The flavours evolve from fresh fruit towards notes of cooked fruit, gentle spices, dried fruit, nuts and coffee, while a saline, peppery touch recalls the maritime dimension of the blend. The long, spicy finish prolongs the smoky and woody sensations.
Pairings and Tasting Occasions
This whisky lends itself to a variety of pairings, from fondue to pheasant and pad thai, where its smoky and spicy notes interact with the richness or exoticism of the dishes. It can be enjoyed neat at room temperature, or over ice for a fresher sensation. A few drops of water also help open up the bouquet and accentuate the peaty dimension.
Mixology
This Blended Malt from Johnnie Walker is conceived above all as a sipping whisky. Its aromatic richness and complexity, born from the blending of mature malts, invite you to savour it without artifice, neat or with a splash of water, rather than in a cocktail.
A Scotch Blended Malt Between Maritime Smoke and Speyside Fruit
Johnnie Walker, the Story of the World's Best-Selling Scotch Whisky
Founded in 1820 in Kilmarnock, Scotland, when John Walker took over a family grocery store, Johnnie Walker is today the world's best-selling Scotch whisky. The art of blending, perfected by his son Alexander, gave rise to a strong identity: a square bottle, colourful labels and the emblematic Striding Man silhouette. The brand draws its malts from four emblematic distilleries representing Scotland's major regions – Glenkinchie, Cardhu, Clynelish and Caol Ila. Johnnie Walker now belongs to the Diageo group, which sells the brand in nearly 180 countries while making significant sustainability efforts, notably in reducing packaging and managing water.
The Whisky
Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Years Old stands out within the range as a blended malt whisky, a rare category for Johnnie Walker since it excludes any grain whisky. It is crafted exclusively from Scotch single malts, all aged for a minimum of fifteen years, sourced notably from Talisker, Linkwood, Cragganmore and Caol Ila. Matured in American and European oak casks, these malts offer a wide spectrum of flavours that the house's blenders carefully assemble to create a complex and harmonious character, true to the house style.
Launched in the 2000s, then withdrawn from most markets in the early 2010s, this whisky was relaunched worldwide in 2016 in response to strong demand from enthusiasts. The relaunch was accompanied by a brand message highlighting the blenders' expertise and the richness of the blend. Since then, it has been acclaimed by critics, notably winning a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2017 and earning high scores from specialist publications such as Wine Enthusiast and Whisky Advocate.
Positioned as a bridge between the worlds of blends and single malts, it appeals equally to enthusiasts accustomed to the consistency of blends and to connoisseurs seeking the aromatic richness characteristic of single malts.
