    Description

Tasting notes and characteristics of the Rothes Glen Experience Gordon & MacPhail 2007 by Linkwood

    Tasting

    Nose
Rich, noble and beautifully restrained, it immediately reveals aromas of waxed antique furniture, old books and damp cellar, reminiscent of the great sherries of the 1980s. It then opens onto mellow notes of dried fruits (figs, dates, raisins), candied orange, dark honey, beeswax, light tobacco and bitter cocoa.

    Palate
With a silky, deeply layered texture, the attack reveals flavours of macerated dried fruits and bitter orange marmalade. The palate evolves through complex layers of dark chocolate, black tea, roasted coffee, gingerbread and stewed red fruits, underpinned by polished noble oak, aged vanilla, sweet spices and a touch of patinated leather.

    Food pairings and tasting moments
This single malt, with its long and meditative finish, calls for calm and focused tasting moments, ideally during a winter evening in a cosy atmosphere. It pairs wonderfully with intense dark chocolate or candied orange desserts, as well as with characterful cheeses (blue cheeses such as Stilton, or aged hard cheeses). It can also be enjoyed at the end of a meal, accompanied by dried fruits, roasted nuts or a light cigar.

    Mixology
As this is an exceptional bottling with a beautifully accomplished "old school" profile, it is strongly recommended to enjoy it neat, perhaps with a few drops of water to open up the bouquet. Although its rich sherry notes could theoretically work in a Rob Roy or a Manhattan, using it in cocktails would mask the complexity and nobility of this spirit.

    Other characteristics
This unpeated single malt from the Speyside region is bottled at 43% ABV in a 0.7L format. It stands out for its exceptionally long, noble and persistent finish, marked by cocoa, candied fruits, light tobacco, beeswax polish and roasted walnut, leaving an impression of warmth and elegance.

A Single Malt Scotch Whisky of rare elegance: the art of sherry according to Linkwood

Linkwood: The discreet jewel of Speyside

Founded in 1821 near Elgin, the Linkwood distillery is an emblematic yet paradoxically little-known representative of the Speyside region. Historically designed to supply the booming blending industry, it remains an essential component of the great blends of its current owner, the Diageo group.

The Rothes Glen Experience Gordon & MacPhail 2007 bottling

The result of a unique three-way collaboration, the Rothes Glen Experience Gordon & MacPhail 2007 is an exceptional Single Malt that celebrates the golden age of traditional maturations. Distilled in 2007, this Scotch whisky was carefully selected and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail, a historic Elgin merchant founded in 1895, renowned for its uncompromising approach to cask selection.

This spirit stands out for a production process geared towards absolute finesse: a remarkably clear wort, a long 75-hour fermentation and slow distillation that maximises contact with the copper of the tubular condensers. The result is a distillate of great elegance, floral and fruity, recognised by connoisseurs as a true hidden gem.

This exclusive bottling was created for the "Whisky Experience" at Rothes Glen manor, a prestigious Speyside estate, and distributed by the specialist wine merchant Les Grands Alambics. Presented in an elegant gift box, it showcases a deep maturation in sherry cask, shaping a beautifully consistent "old school" aromatic profile. The ageing enhances the distillate's naturally silky texture to deliver a rich and patinated tasting experience, reminiscent of the great Speysides of the 1980s. This Rothes Glen Experience Gordon & MacPhail is aimed first and foremost at seasoned enthusiasts and lovers of traditional sherry cask maturations, in search of a narrative, seamless and remarkably coherent spirit.
