    Description

Tasting Characteristics and Notes for Thibault Liger-Belair's Gevrey-Chambertin Village "La Croix des Champs" 2023

    Tasting

    Appearance
This wine displays a beautiful ruby red colour.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet is intense, driven by aromas of raspberry and wild strawberry. Over time, subtle notes of liquorice, orange peel and hints of the forest floor may emerge.

    Palate
Medium-bodied, the texture offers a lovely balance thanks to supple, crunchy tannins. A fine acidity underpins the whole, leading to a pleasant and harmonious finish.

    Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs beautifully with roasted or grilled meats such as veal fillet, duck or farmhouse pork roast. It also goes very well with mushroom-based dishes, delicate poultry and soft or semi-hard cheeses.

    Serving and cellaring
The Gevrey-Chambertin Village "La Croix des Champs" 2023 can be enjoyed now, but it also has the ageing potential to be kept in the cellar until around 2025.

A Gevrey-Chambertin of Great Finesse from Thibault Liger-Belair

    The estate
Although the family's history dates back to 1720, the Thibault Liger-Belair winery was officially founded in 2001. Located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in Burgundy, the estate is now run by Thibault Bocquillon Liger-Belair. This passionate winemaker has made his mark by adopting a rigorous approach centred on organic and biodynamic viticulture. The estate spans prestigious appellations of the Côte de Nuits and is also exploring the potential of Beaujolais. The exacting standards of its farming practices and deep respect for terroir have earned this house its renown.

    The vineyard
The plot from which this wine originates is located in the south-east of the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. This tiny micro-climat of barely 0.20 hectares lies on deep soils, rich in clay and relatively poor in limestone. Originally planted in 1964, the vines were left fallow before being carefully replanted in 2015. The land is worked with the utmost respect for the environment, following the principles of organic farming and biodynamics, with controlled yields, ploughing by horse and entirely hand-harvested grapes.

    Winemaking and ageing
To craft the Gevrey-Chambertin Village "La Croix des Champs" 2023, the grapes undergo a rigorous sorting process. Fermentation, carried out with indigenous yeasts, lasts around three weeks with particularly gentle extraction. To bring aromatic freshness and offset the nature of the soil, the winemaking process includes 50% whole clusters. The wine is then patiently aged for 20 months in oak barrels, 40% of which are new, crafted from the family's own forests.
