    Robert Parker Wine Advocate

    Luis Gutiérrez

The serious red 2022 Hipperia was produced with a blend of 51% Cabernet Franc, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot aged in new barrels for 18 months, a blending exercise of precision with the help of French consultant Eric Boissenot in search of elegance, complexity and balance, which they reach, even though the wine hits 15% alcohol. It's a more Mediterranean vintage, and despite the élevage, the oak does not dominate the aromas or flavors. The palate is balanced, the tannins, fine-grained and elegant, and the wine is in good harmony in a more powerful style this year. 16,513 bottles were filled in June 2024.

    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Vallegarcía's Hipperia 2022 cuvée

    Tasting

    Appearance
This wine unveils a ruby red colour that is both deep and particularly intense.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet proves highly complex, opening on notes of black fruits such as plum, blackberry and blackcurrant. The whole is subtly enhanced by hints of rosemary, a mineral thread as well as balsamic notes inherited from its time spent in wood.

    Palate
On the palate, the material is rich, ample and full of elegance. It is supported by very fine-grained tannins, delivering remarkable persistence and a long finish.

    Food and wine pairings
This cuvée will ideally accompany red meats, slow-cooked stews, oven-baked fish or a selection of aged cheeses.

    Serving and cellaring
This 2022 vintage is officially recognised for its very strong cellaring potential, allowing it to improve in the cellar over time.

    Other characteristics
This red wine with its unique and characterful profile displays an alcohol content of 15%. It is especially crafted to enhance grand occasions.

A great wine of character from the heights of Vallegarcia

    The estate
Founded in 1999 with the planting of its first vines, the Vallegarcía estate extends over 50 hectares in the Montes de Toledo, in Castilla-La Mancha. This family-owned property stands out for its exceptional high-altitude terroir. Officially recognised as a protected designation of origin, the estate embodies a modern vision of Spanish viticulture. The estate produces high-quality wines, combining the elegance of international grape varieties with the singularity of a unique continental climate.

    The vineyard
Hipperia is a wine from Vallegarcía made from a vineyard managed according to the principles of sustainable viticulture. The vines thrive in a continental climate, perched at 850 metres of altitude on poor, acidic and highly evolved soils. For this specific cuvée, the grapes are meticulously selected and come from nine distinct plots on the estate.

    Winemaking and aging
After a harvest carried out entirely by hand, the berries are vinified with care. The final blend is decided in November, once fermentation is complete. The wine is then aged in its definitive blend, and not grape variety by grape variety, for 18 months in barrels. It finally benefits from an additional bottle aging of at least 12 months before its release.

    Grape varieties
This Castilla-La Mancha wine is made from a blend of 51% Cabernet Franc, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot.
