    Description

Tasting Notes and Serving Tips for the Mâcon-Pierreclos "En Tremblay" 2021 from Verget

    Tasting

    Appearance

The wine shows a pale yellow hue with slightly golden highlights, with a discreet effervescence characteristic of the vintage.

    Nose

The nose reveals a finely floral aromatic breadth, offering an inviting, delicate complexity.

    Palate

On the palate, the wine displays remarkable energy with a dynamic, fluid structure that gradually unfolds across the palate. The finish shows a slight tannic astringency that harmonizes with the overall structure.

    Food and Wine Pairings

This Mâcon-Pierreclos is an ideal match for fresh or aged goat cheeses, delicate seafood such as oysters and scallops, as well as simply prepared white fish. It also pairs beautifully with cheese quiches and light poultry dishes.

    Serving and Cellaring

The Mâcon-Pierreclos "En Tremblay" 2021 can be served at a temperature between 10 and 12°C to fully reveal its aromas.

    Other characteristics

This dry white wine from Burgundy stands out for its balanced minerality and aromatic freshness, creating a sensation of opulence brought by a unique softness while remaining perfectly balanced.

A lively and expressive Mâcon-Pierreclos from old vines

    The estate

Maison Verget was founded in 1990 by Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife, Maine Heynen, a Belgian couple based in Burgundy since 1976. Established in Sologny in the Mâconnais, this négociant house stands out for a revolutionary approach: purchasing grapes exclusively rather than musts or finished wines. Julien Desplans has overseen production since 2016, alongside Jean-Marie Guffens, who continues to exert a decisive influence. The Maison has devoted itself to demonstrating that great Chardonnays can be produced in the Mâconnais, a region historically marginalized.

    The vineyard

The Mâcon-Pierreclos "En Tremblay" comes from a plot located on the heights of Pierreclos, on a clay plateau. The vines, around 50 years old, thrive on soils composed mainly of clay with a significant presence of mineral elements. This plot benefits from a privileged exposure that promotes optimal grape ripening.

    The vintage

The 2021 vintage presented particular challenges, with a winter marked by a frost episode affecting France’s winegrowing areas. Fortunately, the En Tremblay plot escaped these spring frosts, allowing for an early harvest. However, the particularly rainy months of June and July were followed by weather instability from mid-July to mid-August. Repeated rainfall, including 100 mm at one point, encouraged the development of noble rot, adding further complexity to the grapes.

    Winemaking and aging

For the Mâcon-Pierreclos "En Tremblay" 2021, only the free-run juice is used, lending distinctive aromatic purity and structural finesse. Fermentation takes place exclusively in neutral barrels, without new oak, although a limited proportion of 20% new oak is incorporated during aging. The latter lasts 7 months with several rounds of lees stirring, allowing the wine to develop complexity while preserving the intrinsic expression of the terroir.
