A new cuvée from the stony, high-altitude part of the appellation (much of which was reclaimed from scrub land in the second half of the 20th century), the 2024 Viré-Clessé A l'Agrémat Vieilles Vignes offers up attractive aromas of peach, jasmine and nutmeg, followed by a medium-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's pure and persistent.

    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Viré-Clessé Village "À l'Agrémat Vieilles Vignes" 2024 Verget

    Tasting

    Colour
This white wine reveals a luminous colour ranging between pale gold and light yellow, sometimes tinged with subtle greenish hues typical of its youth.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet proves complex and remarkably fresh. It exudes floral scents of acacia and honeysuckle, intimately intertwined with fruity notes of white peach, pear and mandarin. With aeration, delicate touches of mint and eucalyptus emerge alongside a pronounced minerality that enriches the whole.

    Palate
The palate offers a supple, elegant texture, carried by lovely tension and a persistent mineral thread. The concentration derived from the very old vines brings remarkable depth, extending into a long, lingering finish.

    Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with scallops pan-seared in butter and lemon, delicate white fish such as turbot or sole, as well as a wild mushroom risotto. It will also elevate a fine charcuterie board or a fresh goat cheese.

    Service and storage

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this Viré-Clessé Village "À l'Agrémat Vieilles Vignes" 2024 at a temperature between 11 and 13°C. This wine can be enjoyed now or cellared until around 2034.

The mineral elegance and concentration of a great Viré-Clessé wine

    The estate

Founded in 1990 by Jean-Marie Guffens, the négociant house Verget has established itself as an essential reference in Burgundy. Based in Sologny, the estate rests on a simple philosophy: the best wines come from the best grapes. By applying winemaking methods worthy of the greatest estates to a négociant business, Verget elevates each terroir with the precision of a master craftsman. Now led by Julien Desplans, managing director since 2016, the house was also named Négociant of the Year in 2020, confirming its excellence and its tailored approach.

    The vineyard

This cuvée comes from a high-altitude plot called À l'Agrémat, located within the Viré-Clessé appellation. This singular terroir rests on a complex geological mosaic, blending limestone bedrock, marl and clay soils scattered with pebbles. The distinctive feature of this vineyard lies in the exceptional age of its vines, some of which are over 80 years old. These very old, deeply rooted vines yield limited quantities but guarantee rare concentration and aromatic complexity.

    The vintage

The year 2024 unfolded amid increasingly pronounced climatic variations. The weather conditions of this vintage required constant attention in the vineyards to support the growth cycle and bring the grapes to optimal ripeness before harvest.

    Winemaking and aging

The creation of the Viré-Clessé Village "À l'Agrémat Vieilles Vignes" 2024 is the subject of meticulous care. After careful harvesting, each plot is pressed and vinified separately. Pressing is gentle and closely monitored to isolate the finest juices. Aging takes place on fine lees, accompanied by regular bâtonnage, the frequency of which is adapted to the vintage. The estate notably uses egg-shaped concrete vats, promoting the natural circulation of the lees and beneficial micro-oxygenation for the wine's aromatic development.

    Grape variety

This wine is made exclusively from Chardonnay (100%).
