An exceptional Chardonnay from Chile with a unique mineral character

    The estate

Viña Tabali was founded in 2002 by Guillermo Luksic in the Limarí Valley in the Coquimbo region, making it the first modern winery in this northern area of Chile. Under the current leadership of Nicolas Luksic, the estate spans 151 hectares, spread across three vineyards with distinct terroirs: Talinay, a coastal plot located 12 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean on limestone soils of marine origin that are exceptional in Chile, and Río Hurtado, perched at 1,600 meters above sea level on volcanic substrate. This complementarity between maritime freshness and high-altitude conditions gives the cuvées remarkable minerality, vibrancy, and finesse, further enhanced by a low-intervention approach in the cellar.

    The vineyard

The Talinay vineyard is located on the cool northern coast of Chile, close to Fray Jorge National Park, which UNESCO has declared a Biosphere Reserve. Situated at 150 meters above sea level and only 12 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, it benefits from a constant sea breeze, making it the coolest site in the Limarí Valley, with a maximum summer temperature of 23.5°C. The vines take root on limestone slopes made up of calcareous soils rich in limestone rock, remnants of an ancient marine terrace. This highly porous, fissured limestone acts as a natural water regulator and a source of calcium carbonate, giving this wine from Coquimbo its distinctive minerality.

    Winemaking and aging

Talinay Chardonnay 2022 was produced using a fruit-preserving method. The hand-harvested whole clusters were pressed to limit the extraction of phenolic compounds and preserve pH and acidity. After 18 hours of cold settling to remove heavier lees, fermentation took place in French oak barrels from the forests of Fontainebleau, Jupille, and the Vosges. Aging continued for 10 months in the same French oak barrels.

    Grape variety

This Chilean wine is a 100% Chardonnay.
