A Chilean Chardonnay shaped by minerality and tension

    The estate

Founded in 2002 by Guillermo Luksic, Viña Tabalí spans 151 hectares in the Limarí Valley, Coquimbo Region, in northern Chile. As the first modern winery in this coastal valley, it is now run by Nicolas Luksic, the founder’s son. The estate farms three vineyards with different geological profiles: Talinay, 12 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, lies on a marine limestone soil unique in Chile, while Río Hurtado, at 1,600 meters above sea level, sits on volcanic soils. This exceptional combination of maritime influences, extreme altitude, and rare terroirs gives Tabalí’s wines remarkable minerality and a distinctive freshness.

    The vineyard

The Talinay vineyard is located in the Limari Valley, in the immediate vicinity of Fray Jorge National Park, which UNESCO has designated a Biosphere Reserve. The Caliza plot, covering 0.7 hectares, lies just 12 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean at an altitude of 150 meters. Planted in 2006, it sits on limestone slopes formed from an ancient marine terrace. These soils, made up of fractured and porous limestone with a high calcium carbonate content, act as a natural water regulator. The climate is characterized by a constant sea breeze, making this site the coolest in Limarí, with summer highs of no more than 23.5°C. This oceanic influence delays grape ripening by 2 to 3 weeks compared with other Chilean coastal areas.

    Winemaking and aging

After hand harvesting, the Talinay Caliza Chardonnay 2022 was fermented in French oak barrels from Fontainebleau, Jupille, and the Vosges. The aging of this wine from Coquimbo continued for 10 months in the same French barriques.

    Grape variety

This Chilean white wine is 100% Chardonnay.
