Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Zuccardi's Finca Piedra Infinita Gravascal Malbec 2021
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a deep ruby red hue, saturated and enhanced by delicate violet reflections.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is particularly expressive, revealing aromas of black berries mingled with distinctive notes of tapenade and black olive. These are joined by complex hints of iron, iodine, and burnt orange, along with delicate rose scents, all underscored by nuances of tar and graphite.
Palate
On the palate, this cuvée offers an imposing structure carried by exceptional acidity. Minerality expresses itself fully through notes of graphite and wet stone. The tannins, of great finesse, coat the palate through to a persistent finish, marked by a chalky, savory, and subtly saline sensation.
Food and Wine Pairing
This full-bodied cuvée pairs wonderfully with grilled or roasted meats, such as a fine cut of beef, lamb, pork, or turkey. Dishes seasoned with rosemary, cumin, or pepper will enhance its aromas. When it comes to cheese, opt for characterful varieties such as cheddar, manchego, asiago, or a blue-veined cheese.
The Pure Expression of an Exceptional Terroir at the Heart of Valle de Uco
The Estate
Founded in 1963 by Alberto Zuccardi, the family estate is located in the Mendoza region, at the foot of the Andes mountain range. A pioneer in irrigation systems from the outset, the company has become an essential brand and a major player in Argentine winemaking. Now led by Sebastián Zuccardi, representing the third generation of owners, the estate stands out for its commitment to biodynamics, having been Demeter certified since 2016. The bodega enjoys worldwide renown, producing premium terroir-driven wines that express the unique identity of their place of origin with purity and elegance.
The Vineyard
This cuvée comes from a small 0.73-hectare plot, a true single vineyard site located in the northeastern section of the Finca Piedra Infinita estate. This vineyard is planted at an altitude of 1,100 meters within the Paraje Altamira Geographical Indication, in San Carlos, within the Valle de Uco. The vines grow on a highly specific soil profile, made up of large gravel and granite stones, covered by a layer of calcareous material located between 40 and 50 centimeters deep. The entire vineyard is farmed according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture.
The Vintage
The year was marked by cool, wet weather conditions, notably a cold spring followed by a rainy summer. This particular climate allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness, achieving a perfect balance between acidity and sugars, while developing a solid tannic structure.
Winemaking and Aging
The creation of the Finca Piedra Infinita Gravascal Malbec 2021 is overseen by winemaking director Sebastián Zuccardi and head winemaker Laura Principiano. The harvest is carried out plot by plot to pick the grapes at the ideal moment. After rigorous manual selection, the berries are transferred to the vats by gravity. Fermentation is triggered by indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks with no epoxy lining. Aging then takes place entirely in these same concrete vessels, with no technological intervention, to preserve the authentic expression of the fruit.
Grape Variety
100% Malbec.
