    Vinum

Seductive nose with raspberry, cherry, floral and peppery notes; fruity palate, wild yet composed, perfectly integrated tannins, nothing overwhelms, spicy-bitter finish.

    Decanter

Ripe and floral notes on the nose, really quite expressive and open aromatically. There’s a richness to the scents with ripe blackcurrants, cherries and touches of rose and violets too with some milk chocolate. Supple and tart, high acidity, juicy and ripe fruit, with crunchiness, quite lean but there’s great length with freshly picked mint and some cedar and herbal aspects. Crisp and clean, lovely purity and precision. Not so layered or plush but it’s fresh and inviting with lift and a lovely mineral undertone. Accessible. Ageing 12 months, 20% new oak. 14.5% press wine. Almost 100 IPT. 40% of production.

    Antonio Galloni

The 2023 Baron de Brane has developed into a striking wine. Floral top notes meld into a core of blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, incense and dried herbs. Brisk acids perk up the mid-palate on the long, sustained finish. The blend works so well here. Readers will find a Margaux of stature and class.

Spearmint, cocoa, cedar, red berry, and tobacco aromas create the perfume. On the palate, the wine is soft, elegant, ripe, round, and is already delivering pleasure. So, you can safely enjoy this with ease while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. The wine blends 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 1% Carmenere, and 1% Petit Verdot. 2026-2036.

    Falstaff

Strong ruby, purple reflections, subtle edge brightening. Fresh plum fruit, a hint of blackberry confit, a touch of orange blossom, inviting bouquet. Juicy, a hint of currant, fresh acidity, mineral, lemon finish, appears light-footed and stimulating despite its power.

Baron de Brane once again sets the bar high for second wines, with fragrant floral aromatics, nuance and depth from the attack through the mid-palate, firm tannins and concentrated black fruits. 20% new oak.

    Yves Beck

With good intensity, the bouquet of Baron de Brane creates a bridge between oak aging, fruit and freshness. Driven by a slender texture, the wine is elegant, structured and linear. It unfolds seamlessly, relying on subtle, perfectly integrated tannins that provide an appreciable energy, and on a framework that reinforces its brightness and freshness. An inviting, accomplished wine.

Deep, intense, vibrant colour. Superb, highly aromatic nose—refined, pure, fruity, floral, and fascinating for a second label. Airy, silky palate, with real class to the texture and plenty of flavour. The wine stretches out into a gentle, irresistible finish. This is Margaux! A strong rise in score since the En Primeur tastings. On a par with the 2022.

    Description

The richness and balance of a Second Wine from Margaux

    The estate

At the head of the Château Brane-Cantenac since 1992, Henri Lurton passionately perpetuates the viticultural adventure begun by his ancestors, combining tradition with the modernity of infrastructures aimed at magnifying the identity of the wines from this exceptional terroir of the Margaux appellation.

    The vineyard

The Château de Brane-Cantenac is a property in Margaux located on the Brane plateau, a unique terroir that contributes to the elegant and aromatic signature of the estate's wines.

    The wine

Baron de Brane is a wine that pays tribute to Baron Jacques-Maxime de Brane who was the owner of the vineyard in the 19th century. This Second Wine is made from plots located on the 3rd terrace with deep gravels from clayey gravels mainly planted with Merlot, resulting in a delicious and quickly accessible wine.

    Grape variety

The grape variety of Baron de Brane consists of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
