Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Arantei 2024 from Bodegas La Val
Tasting
Colour
A pale straw yellow hue appears in the glass, enhanced by brilliant green highlights and beautiful luminosity.
Nose
Displaying great purity and precision, the bouquet reveals beautiful complexity. It opens with vibrant citrus aromas, particularly lime zest, mingled with notes of white and stone fruits such as peach and nectarine. The whole is enriched by touches of fresh herbs, Thai basil, flowers and balsamic nuances, all underpinned by a saline, slate-like minerality.
Palate
Elegant and crisp, the palate shows a light to medium body. It stands out with a powerful natural acidity that offers beautiful linear precision and great textural complexity. The finish is long and refreshing, dominated by lemon peel flavours and a persistent saline minerality.
Food and wine pairing
This Spanish white wine pairs wonderfully with fresh seafood (oysters, mussels, clams, grilled shrimp) or seafood in creamy sauces (scallops, crab, lobster). It also perfectly accompanies ceviche, summer salads with fresh herbs, grilled vegetables or citrus-marinated poultry.
The mineral and saline expression of a white wine from Rías Baixas
The estate
Founded in 1985 by José Limeres Guille in Galicia, Bodegas La Val is a historic and pioneering producer of the Rías Baixas appellation, officially recognised in 1988. The estate stands out for its vineyard and its commitment to vinifying exclusively its own grapes. Acquired in March 2023 by the CVNE group, the estate combines tradition with environmental innovation. Under the guidance of winemaker Jose Maria Ureta and viticulturist Oliver Weiss, the estate produces wines of great authenticity.
The vineyard
The cuvée comes from a vineyard located in the sub-region of Condado de Tea, within the Rías Baixas appellation. Planted in 1989, these vines flourish on a former alluvial riverbed of the Miño. The soils, rich in pebbles and with a high proportion of clay, give the vines excellent resilience and impart deep minerality. The vineyard benefits from significant sunshine, favouring early ripening, and is trained using the traditional pergola system to ensure optimal ventilation given the humid climate.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage is characterised by optimal berry maturity. The harvest, carried out early during the first half of September, allowed the grapes to be protected from unpredictable autumn rains, ensuring a healthy crop and perfectly balanced musts.
Winemaking and aging
The winemaking of the Arantei 2024 is distinguished by fermentation carried out exclusively with indigenous wild yeasts, allowing the full identity of the terroir to be expressed. The wine then undergoes extended aging in tank on fine lees. This method, combined with rigorous temperature control and gentle pressing, helps soften the grape's natural acidity while developing a rich texture and beautiful aromatic complexity.
