A fresh, mineral Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune by Bruno Colin

    The estate

Established in 2004 when Bruno Colin released his first vintage following the division of the family estate Michel Colin-Deléger, the Domaine Bruno Colin now farms 8.75 hectares spread across fifty micro-plots in five communes of the Côte de Beaune in Bourgogne. Trained at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune and drawing on multigenerational family expertise, Bruno Colin leads this estate, which produces twenty distinct appellations, with a focus on mineral, finely chiseled Chardonnay whites. The domaine stands out for its parcel-by-parcel vinification that preserves the identity of each terroir, notably its eight Premiers Crus of Chassagne-Montrachet. Awarded a star in the Guide des meilleurs vins de France 2026, Bruno Colin embodies contemporary Burgundian excellence through his commitment to the authentic expression of terroir.

    The vineyard

This Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune comes from a micro-plot of just 0.42 hectare, planted with vines around thirty years old. Situated at altitude between 280 and 400 meters in the back slope of the Côte de Beaune, the vineyard benefits from a cooler climate than the appellations on the plain. The clay-limestone soils give the wine its hallmark minerality and fine tension. This higher-elevation setting helps preserve remarkable natural acidity and yields wines of great freshness.

    The vintage

The 2021 vintage proved particularly demanding for Burgundian winegrowers. After a mild, rainy winter, spring was marked by devastating frost episodes in early April, following a spell of early warmth that had accelerated budbreak. June and July saw significant rainfall, before August brought more favorable conditions. Despite these climatic challenges and reduced yields, the harvested grapes showed fine concentration and preserved freshness, giving rise to wines with a classic Burgundian profile.

    Vinification and aging

The Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune 2021 is vinified in oak barrels with extended contact on fine lees. The wine then undergoes aging for around twelve months in French oak barrels, 20 to 25% of which are new. After this aging phase, the wine is racked and transferred to temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks for an additional three to six months, allowing for blending and controlled micro-oxygenation before bottling at the estate. This respectful approach highlights fruit expression and the terroir’s mineral purity.

    Grape variety

    100% Chardonnay.
