    Description

The balance and aromatic intensity of a Tuscan red wine

    The estate

Founded in 1968 following the merger of 5 estates, Castellare di Castellina is one of Italy's finest wine references. Renowned for their quality, the estate's wines derive their uniqueness both from their exceptional terroir and from their label, with its bird representing the estate's deep respect for the surrounding nature.

    The vineyard

Located in the heart of the Chianti region, the vineyard extends across 80 hectares near the small village of Castellina.
On the heights of a natural amphitheatre, this terroir, planted on clay-limestone soils, produces full-bodied, powerful Tuscan wines with great ageing potential.

    The wine

Produced since 1999, Poggio ai Merli of Castellare di Castellina stems from vines located between 350 and 400 metres above sea level. Since its first vintage, it has been recognised as a wine of excellence and unique elegance.

    Winemaking and ageing

Poggio ai Merli from Castellare di Castellina is vinified in thermo-regulated steel tanks.
The wine is aged exclusively in French oak barrels (1/3 new barrels) for 15 to 30 months. Bottling is followed by an additional 12 months of ageing before release on the market.

Characteristics and tasting tips for Poggio ai Merli 2007 from Castellare di Castellina

    Tasting

With its beautiful ruby red colour, this Tuscan wine reveals its richness as it is tasted. Fruity notes (ripe berries, stone fruit, blackberry, morello cherry and plum) blend harmoniously with toasted notes of cocoa powder, vanilla and ground espresso beans. The tannins are dense and admirably complemented by good acidic grip. The finish delights with its balance and persistence.
